In the wake of the bloody attack on Mumbai's Chabad House last week, Public Security Minister Avi Dichter on Sunday said that Israel should not take upon itself the full burden of protecting all Jewish sites abroad.

"Israel must absolutely not see itself as the 'sheriff' of Jewish sites worldwide," Dichter said.

The minister stated that Israel is already making great efforts to help groups like Chabad protect their centers.

Six Jews, mostly Israeli, were killed in the attack on the Chabad House in Mumbai.

Officials from the ultra-Orthodox outreach sect have said they will do all they can to beef up the security of the thousands of centers their emissaries run across the world.
