Deputy FM tells U.S.: Israel won't make any more concessions
Ayalon: U.S. anger over East Jerusalem building due to timing; PA: Peace talks off until plan shelved.
By Natasha Mozgovaya Tags: Mahmoud Abbas Israel news Middle East peaceDeputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon on Thursday defended Israel's decision to approve construction of 1,600 new housing units in East Jerusalem, saying sovereignty over the capital has never been negotiable and that Israel would not make any more concessions for peace.
"There is no doubt that the Palestinians will try to use this to either stop the upcoming indirect peace talks, or to extort more concessions from us, and I have explained to U.S. government officials that there will be no more concessions," said the deputy minister.
According to Ayalon, the United States' condemnation on the matter was due to the timing of the announcement and not the content of the issue.
Israel declared its approval of the construction just 24 hours after U.S. envoy George Mitchell announced that Israelis and Palestinians had agreed to begin indirect peace talks and in the midst of a visit to the region by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.
"We were severely criticized by the State Department," Ayalon told Haaretz during a visit to Washington. "I explained that Jerusalem has always been out of the question."
"The criticism was mainly about the timing of the announcement, and I told them that it was poor timing, but it was not planned and it was a serious mistake which is currently being probed in Israel," Ayalon told Haaretz.
Ayalon said that despite the uncomfortable diplomatic circumstances he has found himself in due to the issue, his visit to Washington has been "essentially good" and has allowed him to reach "concrete achievements."
Biden issued his Israeli hosts with a sharp rebuke upon hearing that the East Jerusalem construction had been approved. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was not informed in advance of the decision, announced by the interior ministry.
The prime minister summoned Interior Minister Eli Yishai Wednesday morning and reprimanded him for the decision's "wretched, displaced, insensitive" timing.
The 1,600 homes will be built in Ramat Shlomo, an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood in northern Jerusalem, near the Palestinian village of Shuafat.
The neighborhood lies within the municipal boundaries drawn up by Israel after it annexed East Jerusalem following its capture in the 1967 Six-Day War.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said earlier Thursday that Palestinians would not begin indirectpeace talks unless the Israeli government annuled the decision to build in East Jerusalem.
"We want to hear from [United States envoy George] Mitchell that Israel has canceled the decision to build housing units before we start the negotiations," Erekat said.
His remarks follow comments by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who told Biden Wednesday that it was not enough for the Israeli decision to be condemned, it also had to be canceled.

The world wonders what the Palestinians have to offer to Israel as concessions. Could they match the concessions Israel has proffered toward the peace process? The 90 day freeze on settlement building, while continuing to build 3,000 housing units in the West Bank, and to place Jerusalem off limits for any building limits? Continuing the harsh and humiliating occupation in the West Bank? Maintain the near genocidal blockade over Gaza and continue the annexation of Jerusalem: both in violation of the 4th Geneva Convention? Or perhaps the construction of the barrier wall, which the UN ICJ has declared illegal? At which one of those peace offers should the Palestinians grasp and count on for their future? Are you trying to establish moral equivalency between the US/Indian wars and Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory? What hypocrisy!! There were no UN, no Geneva Conventions, no international laws during US/Indian wars. There are now, and Israeli is in violation of them all.
Arnold you keep repeating the same lie that jews were the FIRST people to reside in Palestine . You are either a complete ignorant of the region,s history or you know the truth and you want to change history and both are bad ideas.
How can you teach history when you know absolutely nothing about the subject? Jews were not there first!! When the Israelites crossed from Jordan into Canaan, also known as Palestine, the land was inhabited by (among others) the semite tribes, Amorites, Hittites and Jebusites. The Jebusites had already built Jerusalem and they inhabited the city for 100 more years. Many noted scholars and historians have determined that the Jebusites are the forebears of the Palestinians. The NYU School of Medicine and the Academy of Science discovered that ME Jewish men have a common genetic signature with Lebanese men, Syrian men and Palestinians, and with no other non-Jews in the world. Do you wish to try to convince us that American settler/Indian wars justify the 42-year Israeli occupation and oppression of Palestine? Are you nuts? There was no UN, no 4th Geneva Convention, and no violation of international laws during US Indian wars. There are now, and Israel is in violation of them all.
"The Indian was put onto "reservations` where they are still to this day." Well, no. USA eventually tried to do better. All native americans now have US citizenship, they can get jobs anywhere in USA, travel wherever in the world, buy or rent land anywhere. 400,000 of them prefer to live on reservations where they have their own laws. They can throw anyone they want off their reservations, but other americans can't legally throw them into their reservations. If Israel were to give Palestinians some land to be Palestine but also let them all be first-class Israeli citizens, it would be like USA with native americans. Of course, this relatively-enlightened approach came only after native americans had been largely genocided and they are currently only 1% of the population of USA. If Israel killed all but 60,000 Palestinians then it would not be too hard to be nice to those who remain. Please let's not follow US example.
Bravo, that's all one hears, that only Israel should make concessions. It would appear that the U.S. sent over Biden because he is known to have a big mouth. Likely, he told Obama that he was going to be the champion and show Clinton and the rest of the administration, that he would tell Israeli authorities where to go. Boy, "I am the bull in the china shop". "Divide the city of Jerusalem", if I recall correctly, it was the First Nation Indians who inhabited what is now the U.S. Did the Americans give the Indians concessions, like half of Washington, etc.,etc.?No, they now live on reservations. What hypocracy.
...You said that 90% of the Arab League Countries are at warwith Israel. Please name them.. Don't confuse no diplomatic relations and no economic relations as a "status" of war..Look at the USA & Cuba: no relations but still no war. Reconsidered what you said with the Arab 2002 Peace Proposal still on the table.
"I hope the deaf people in Washington can hear a 10 X 10 transmission from Israel sent by the Deputy FM....etc." (ML) They are NOT deaf Mark! I thought so too and wrote a post which I regret now. So, on the contrary, I believe now that there is lots of understanding between the US and Israel in the matter of Jerusalem. And in general, unless I am very wrong, the relationship between Israel and the US is very strong. Much more than I thought before listening to Biden after the slap on his face... Of course, whether you like it or not... "My country, right or wrong", remember?
USA if you are the Almighty Powerful country that we all know you can be...just do us a favor and shut this racist and terrorist state off...israel's agenda is a illness...a cancer growing that needs some very harsh medicine.
First a little history lesson. The Hebrew/Jewish people were the earliest native indigenous people of the area known as Israel. So they have this claim to the land. The reason that so many left thousands of years ago is that they were pushed out from different warring countries...but each time they returned to their homeland. Now we will get to the invasion of America by your ancestors. Be they on the Mayflower or on any of the subsequent boats from Europe. The native Indian population signed peace treaty after peace treaty with your past Presidents. Each and every one of the treaties was broken and the settlers overran the territories. The Indian was put onto "reservations' where they are still to this day. So Mark...if it worked for you it will work for the Israelis...but the difference is that the Jews were THERE FIRST. So go smoke your peace pipe somewhere else.

JUDGE, the war you seek will result in the defeat of the Arabs (again) and the expulsion of the "Palestinians" from Israel. Why did Jordan try to run the "Palestinians" out? The "Palestinians" are a violent people who do not know how to make peace. If "Palestinians" don't feel that the Israeli state represents them, they are free to emigrate to wherever they want, just like my ancestors did when they left Germany, Scotland, England and Ireland for the US. I hope there is not a war, but if there is, most Americans are on Israel's side.
peoples history, land and ancestry. It's all ours, they say.We want all of Palestine from the river to the sea and there won't be peace until you give us the last piece of your land.Jew free of course. They stated their intentions in 1948 and never changed them so why can someone think that concessions will help to build the trust between them and Israel? Aren't threats of annihilation of Israel clear enough?
even follow olso agreements they signed which they have broken or not even implemented. until then tell them to stay home
Give us a break. What a sick joke. The inventor of the low-couch, a laughing stock everywhere but Israel draws a line in the sand.
I hope the deaf people in Washington can hear a 10 X 10 transmission from Israel sent by the Deputy FM. There will be NO peace and NO Palestine. Hopefully they will hear it and quit wasting everyone's time. Israel will do nothing except humiliate them time and again so long as they continue to babble about peace. It was funny when the French soldier told King Arthur to 'Go away or I will taunt you again" in Monty Python's 'Search For the Holy Grail." It is humiliating when Israel repeatedly craps on the USA when it is engaged in the Quest for the Grail of Peace. It is even more disgusting when my government allows itself to be repeatedly humiliated. Time to pick up our marbles and go home.
ahh yeah how ironic to hear you name these city's Jaffa year total pals jews 1931 51,866 44,638 7,209 Haifa year total pals jews 1931 95,472 52,830 23,367 how utterly short your memory as you fear exactly what YOU did to them you took Haifa, Jaffa from them..........and now you show the same hatred they felt when they feared you would do exactly what you did take thier cities I can only imagine what a palestinian must think of you when they read that statment mmmmm the irony
Good for Ayalon!!! Obama and Co. have already long decided to live with a nuclear Iran while slobbering empty promises to the contrary. When Biden says that Israel must make more concessions he doesn't care about the consequences-that Israelis will die when terrorists take over as they did in Gush Katif. I certainly hope that Bibi and the leadership of Israel act responsibly...that they don't cave or fall for phony, empty US words and promises. The only way to bring peace between arabs and Jews in Israel and the neighboring areas is for the arabs to be forced, repeat, forced to accept the existence of Israel as a Jewish state; as the UN first recognized it.
i find it ironic how many jews speak like this The only G-d chose Israel. yeah and untill 100 years ago all jews believed they were not to return to israel until the coming of the messiah mmmm but then religion is such a nice belief especially when one can twist it to suit oneself don't forget zionisim is a perversion of the true jewish faith or are you denying that that was jewish belief for 2000 years
Why must ppl sound like fundamentalist religious loonies? The religious argument only works if we are arguing our right to Israel to other Jews, and religious Jews at that. How is our beliefs relevant as an argument to a non-jew who does not believe in the Torah. The Torah is relevant to us because we hold it to be true. Muslims don't. And Christians see the new testament to supercede the tanakh, and say all Christians are the new Israel. Either way, using the Torah as a basis of argument is futile. And it makes us no better than a christian or Muslim telling us we are wrong because the Koran or the new testament say this or that. It's irrelevant to us because we are Jews and don't hold those books to be true. To Jews, Christians and Muslims; Leave religion out of it.
we gave the arabs enough land from original league of nations land division no actually you never zionist actually asked for a home in the old philistine area of ottoman empire but british ended up with much bigger area which was greater than old area of palestine just suits you now to try to distort the truth jordan was never on the table and all you were offered was a home "IN" palestine.....not all of it don't get greedy........some of us know the fact so tell me what you want is all of your 2000 year old home....while those who lived on the land have no rights........mmmmmm
Ayalon is such a jackass. What concessions has israel made? Just come out straight and say that israel will never make any concessions ever. That israel is happy to have the largest concentration camps in history in its backyard.
Way to go Israel... Go for it.. Ignore those evil Obama Administration. They all belong to Arab.. They please Arab and muslims but ignore others.. build up in your own land. That is the promise land... and ignore those who fakely claim theirs. God bless you ...
This is our land and our capital. The world can go suck an egg if they don't like it.
It's been fun, but I think it's time to go our separate ways. Good Luck!
Since it never did want peace with an existent state of Israel!
One of my favorite all time songs goes by the title "Going Nowhere Fast." Change the lyrics just a wee bit and here we are.
if ayalon does not want to make (any more) concessions, he has to face the consequences. then the other party will say: there is nothing to negociate about. if the conflict turns into violence or war, he must go first before the i.d.f. with his family, with his party and with his government, not letting others doing the dirty work and show how brave and what a good example they are. if they donot, then they are cowards and war-criminals. after every action comes reaction. every desicion in life has consequences. i wish israel and the palestinians much luck and wisdom.
If most of the settlers remained on the West Bank, that would give a Palastinian state about a 20% Jewsih minority. What's wrong with that? Israel has a 20$ Arab minority and does ok with that. Not great, perhaps, but certainly a lot better than South Africa did under apartheid or the Southern U.S. did before the Civil Rights movement. Working out minority problems can be difficult, but it is nowhere near as difficult as working out a bi-national state where there is so much hatred. De-facto bi-national states like Lebanon and Sudan have been nightmares. 300 or 400 people, mostly women and children, were massacred in Nigeria just a few weeks ago. Why would you want to solve one nightmare by creating another?
Another Jew asking the Pals to make more compromises...you take and take, what more can they give? It is you who should compromise or be reckoned with by force. The same way you want to shove a deal down the pal's throat is the same way this should go down but down the Israeli's throats. Your sense of entitlement completely sickens me...
Hopefully the U.S. will sell mucho nuclear weapons to the Pals and still more nuclear weapons to the Zionists and both will annihilate one another and we can turn the "Holy Land" into a new Disney Land or Las Vegas.
I hear Jordan already has a Pali queen and 80% Pali population. Israel has a 80% Jewish population. The Arabs fought Israel 6 times and lost each time. Israel won and Arabs lost . End og game.Is there anything further to discuss really?
"Obama knows it, the world knows it" Don't be silly. This God real estate agent myth is untenable. We live by International Law not some dubious biblical text. Do you have a copy of the title deeds by any chance? They will need to be produced as proof of ownership if it ever got to a court of law.
You are right ! Israel has to take back the 1,7 billion dollars that it lent to the International Monetary Fund to help countries in bad economical situation like Europe or USA.... We should keep our money for us, as you so candidly write.
The time for a two state solution has passed. The time to struggle for civil rights in one state has arrived.
territory is open to negotiation, no pre-sets. we gave the arabs enough land from original league of nations land division. take it from jordan. better still take over jordan.
You should read the bible sometime.
Maybe it's a few months premature, but it is time for the US to recognize Palestine, regardless of Israeli opinion. And to hell with Ayalon and Netanyahu. And if the government of Palestine wants a port call in Gaza by the US fleet, why not. Maybe we could use a base in the Eastern Med.
always ask for permission to build in its Capital. Finally, Israel started to act like it suppose to and that is building homes, businesses, shopping malls to accomodate their fast growing population in every place of Israel.
Israel does not want peace, the zionist fanatics will learn the hard way. They believe god gave them the land, did god also give you the holocaust? No it was hitler and the land is palestine. You should be thankful the palestinians are giving you a state but no you wish to exterminate them. This is what you get when you let zionists come and live in your neighbourhoods. Iran is the only country who can force peace as Israel does not want it. Many lives will be lost be lasting peace will be made in the end.
This definitely has its possibilities. I have only one suggestion: folks who join the EU (as I understand it, but far from fully) simultaneously sign up to all sorts of rules, regulations, can does, can't does, etc.; so it might be a good idea to check all that stuff out prior to signing on the dotted line. (Think Sub-Prime Mortgages.)
Look, there is no longer any basis for a Palestinian state. Too many settlers everywhere. What the world and Israeli consciences need to refocus on then is giving equal civil rights to everyone living in Greater Israel. Like in Alabama, like Northern Ireland and South Africa. No more unrealistic talk of two states. There is only a One State solution with no group acting as masters.
As a friend of Israel, I suggest to its Government to pressure the EU to include Israel in the European Union as the 28th member,as they are, with all the ensuing consequences. After that, I just want to see the reactions of the U.S.A., the P.A., the Arabs, Iran, Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc.. This may be the only realistic political solution.
while there still are parts of East Jerusalem he could get in exchange for something else.
Has anyone else noticed the increasing use of religious arguments, not in official statements but in the talkbacks, even here on Haaretz but especially in other Israeli newspapers such as the Jerusalem Post. The Jewish land claim is justified because the God if Israel wants it this way. Unless this God comes down and confirms his wishes to the Arabs personally, such an argumentation will surely lead to more trouble. Sooner or later, some crazy Christians will also put a claim to the Holy Land on this line. In their aggressiveness and religious pretense Christians are unrivalled by both Jews and Muslims, because they arrogantly believe that their prophet is the son of God. Good luck arguing with that. Historically, Jews and Muslims have suffered at the hands of Christians far more than of each other. That shouldnt be forgotten.
When will Israel realize peace cones through justice? Our Judaic heritage surely taught us the opposite of what Israel has been doing. I continue to be appalled by Israel's corruption of Judaic values and the damage it is doing to the Jewish faith. Israel is not a Jewish state. It is foolish to demand Palestine accept it as a Jewish state. The Palestinians are justified in delaying negotiations until Israel reigns in its zealot excesses.
stealing from your house U.S can now start assigning blame to the israelis
Obama knows it, the world knows it. Israel will build in her capital like Egypt will build in Cairo. If the Pals ever want a State, they can have it, but it won't be here in Jerusalem. That would be a recipe for disaster and perpetual war. Jerusalem is not negotiable. Obama knows it is indivisible. A Pal State is possible, but until World leaders want to help the Pals learn a bit of reality and compromise, they can keep sending over charity cheques. For Biden to say he is disappointed that Israel should build in her Capital is a weak move by him. America should show strength by helping the 2 sides draw up borders for a Pal State without encouraging dreamers to think that Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, etc are negotiable. Pal families would thank him for that in a few years time if he gets on with it now. Mediation requires a bit of hard work, not just popping by and having a go at your mates.
VERY GOOD NEWS. The so called peace talks is a farce.
Prior to the British control of Palestine, who was the head of State that the British discussed internal matters with ? The King, the Queen, the Prime Miister , the President. Who was the leader ?
Israel is a sovereign country. No one not even Biden should dictate to Israel and meddle in its internal affairs. It is time Israel tells these foreign guests to stop playing tyrant or king on Israel.
The peace talk will be off permanently because Abbas does want to end up like Sadat did. That is the simple reason. They will never find again someone as brave as was Sadat. Arabs are the most brilliant people when it comes to killings, assasinations and generally murder! are they good at anything , else? I guess not
The rest is hyperbole. The facts speak for themselves. If not for the G-d of Israel, there would be no Israel. Zion is His home.. By whatever name the enemies of Israel ascribe to her, Zionists, Israeli's, Jews, Hebrews, His will and word be done. Israel is the proof of His power and favor. Just as written thousands of years ago. Don't ya just love it? BUILD BABY BUILD!!!
You got that wrong i'm afraid. Stage 1 : Israel will evacuate most of the West Bank and Eats Jerusalem Stage 2 : the palestinians are here to stay. Stage 3 : say goodbye to your extremist government and your Eretz Israel dreams.
The Israeli Government must be very clear in its message to both the Palestinians and Americans - Jerusalem is not up for negotiation! If it means the 'peace talks' break down before they even start....so be it. If anyone thinks the division of Jerusalem will lead to peace breaking out in the region they are mistaken. It will be seen as a sign of weakness. What will be next...Haifa, Jaffa, etc. There are valid legal arguments why East Jerusalem is not occupied land. It was never proposed under the Partition Plan for Jordan to acquire sovereignty over that part of the City, yet they waged an aggressive war and conquered it. Therefore Jordan's ownership and sovereignty was considered illegitimate between 1948-67. Israel, who acquired the territory in a defensive war has a strong case that it was able to assert sovereignty because it was never Jordanian in the first place. If sovereignty was legitimately Jordanian, there would be a case to answer....but alas that is not the case.
Oh please, if the PLO hears a dog bark they walk away from talks. They've done it dozens of times.
they turn down talks, when talks are needed the most! Talks help the both sides to learn "where" exactly the borders of future PA will be drawn and what kind of a PA-neighbor-state Israel will have. We have no idea! The Pals are not drawing any pic of this, only presenting demands. The Pals keep insisting on -67 borders, including Jerusalem, as "de facto", but these are merely their demands they expect Israel to consent to without hesitation. In other words, the Pals are giving orders NOT interested in exchanging reciprocally satisfying ideas for realizable true peace. From the WB the Pals can get only such land that will not form a security threat to Israel*s existance, especially since the Pals refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Israel needs a "life insurance policy" and it will determine the borders within which the future PA may exist. This is not difficult to understand and much of the Pals* own attitude determines, what they*ll get.
You don't peace with a strong Israel because you know that you won't get everything that you want. Stage 1 all of the West Bank and Jerusalem Stage 2 elimination of Israel I'm happy to say that it won't happen. If you want peace, then you'll have to compromise. That means no more rocket attacks, no more attempts at suicide bombings, and a realization that you don't get all of the territory that you want. Then again, you could never agree to such terms.
You're on the "war camp" it seems Petra ? You want war and confrontation. You support terror. That makes you a terrorist. Well done Petra !!
And God doesn't give land to anybody, but the whole Mankind. Racism is a capital sin.
Wake up, there is no god!
Abbas is already ridiculed by his own people as not their representative because he and his corrupt Fatah-PLO lost the last election. There is no chance that Abbas can deliver on "land-for-peace" because he doesn't control Hamas or Gaza, so negotiating with him is a waste of time. And now we see that he actually is controlled entirely by the Arab League - 90% of whose members are at war with Israel - has to ask permission for everything, follow their orders, call off peace talks because they order him to. So nothing has changed since 1947, the "Palestinian Arabs" are manipulated by other Arab states who want to fight wars at their expense. This is not a "peace partner". For the record, Abbas already agreed to indirect talks in exchange for Bibi's "partial freeze", which never included Jerusalem. So Arab League is now trying to squeeze out of Israel a freeze on Jerusalem home-building as well, and now for only "indirect talks". More phony something-for-nothing "negotiating" won't work.
But it looks like we're not worthy enough. So meanwhile, we have a housing problem in my city (I live in my college room and then, who knows?), so we take care of it. When you come speak of this problem to us (and we're sitting at the negociation table right now, alone) instead of reporting us to the media, we'll be happy to speak to somebody that actually cares.
All these voices here are just saying mish-mash and all is fuzzy thinking. The Israaeli government WON'T start any peace talks and they show a fragile interest just to throw sand in the eyes of the world. As a Palestinian I don't want peace with Bibi and Liberman as it would be costly. Thousands of settler points in Jerusalem and Westbank. Its ironic how the world can expect peace from an extremist government. And here you people are talking about the need for peace talks and bla bla bla. We don't peace talks with settlers or extremists. The PA is a moderate leadership seeking peace and Abu Mazen has announced this now and before, he won't allow any violence, and even Pals are not interested to see IDF knocking their doors at 4 AM!!! Israel with such policies is showing the absolute form of occupation, settlements, arresting children, building apartheid wall, discrimination, polluting holy places, etc. Israel was built by true leaders, and those will just let it down!
I can't remember a time when Israel's image abroad was so atrocioulsy bad. Something needs to be done. Anywhere tou go in Europe and the USA, people tell you "Israel does not want peace". This needs to change.
Who are they anyway? Peace loving fascist terrorists?Any government based on laws , or just the power of the gun?
WAR is the only way to stop or derail israeli plans at any price. the arabs must do it now if they have any dignity left in them. I anticipate hizballa will sit quiet for now waiting to see how the world will react to the israeli decision to build, and while Iran intensifies efforts to acquire a nuke or 2 or 3. I expect some serious fireworks in mid-Summer.
some israelis don't want agreements with the PA, that has never held up its side of any agreement example: Oslo immediate followed by Intifada2.Here Erekat hands over a significant success to the settlers.as long as Abbas demands power over Jerusalem, there will be building and no agreement. East Jerusalem with the Kotel of course belongs to the state of Israel, no matter how unfair the Arab international community.
Do you think God wants to bother with a bunch of spoiled zionist like you?? Get real
and the right of return of all property confiscated from Jewish owners in Syria and Lebanon.
have a nice way of turning an argument upside down. Like...the pals want to decide the outcome beforehand....ehm excuse me that is utter rubbish. It is Israel that keeps putting up pre-conditions or facts on the ground. And my dear Petra, why haven't you made aliya yet. Since you love Israel so much more than you do your country? Your mindless comments are never helpful.
@ #6 Mate get a clue! the Islamic world as a "matter of faith" will never accept Israel as a state - they are devoted to its destruction. Who's side are you on? a democratic nation that is making a difference, or a regime spouting hate and vowing genocide of an entire people? The Islamic agenda is domination for the glory of their god - join them or face the the consequences
as a settleent freeze is what Abbas has declared as their line in the sand. Unfortunately this plays into the hands of the Israeli coalition, who do not want peace and which is why the announcement was made last Tuesday during Biden's visit. The United States and the quartet know have to ensure that Israel's coalition realises that the financial and political cost of their machinations this past week is so high that they squeal like sucked pigs begging the International community to restart talks. Perhaps the forged passports can be used to inflict sanctions on Israel, with the EU taking the lead.
LET THEM TRY AND WREST IT FROM THEM....
Israel has managed to live in peace w/ terrorists. Why give the Pals anything? They are learning that Israel wont be intimidated by any means or by anyone.
Israel is doing fine thank you.
The US does not want peace, because it has nothing to export to the world, only weapons...
The PA is getting along fine at the moment, financially doing well as ever, their only 'grump' is that E. Jerusalem mustbe theirs. What will Palestinians do about UNSC Resolution 242 of 1993 which says "Israel was not to be forced back to the fragile and vulnerable l949/1967 Armistice Demarcation lines but to secure and recognised boundaries". With Obama on their side, who knows if the Palestinians need any hard thinking and that Jerusalem housing by the Jews will not have to be scrapped after all....?
First of all, WE have peace and quiet here in OUR land. Secondly, when we did hold "peace talks" with the Philistines, they used them to get part of OUR land and then continue the war. They don't want a state in peace next to us. They want to "throw the Jews into the sea"- like they always wanted. We need to keep OUR land, build where we want, and if the Philistines choose war again, we need to expel them. We will have peace here in OUR land; with or without them.
activity is to conclude talks leading to establishment of their WB state. Until then Israel may, can and should do everything necessary to settle the territory without legal owner, the one that has sovereignty over the contested land.
It's amazing how some Israelis will blame anyone but their own government for the mess that they got themselves into. A reminder that it was your interior minister who decided to take the step required to destroy any chance of peace. Stop blaming the Pals especially those who have agreed to negotiate and kept and are doing their best to keep things quiet so your leaders would talk peace.
You have to be kidding, right?? Whose peace do you want them to have, your version of peace or a fair peace. Me thinks you guys want the Palestinians to roll over and beg for a bone. What you think is fair terms for peace is nothing but a sham. You want peace on your terms.
Israel does not, nor in recent times has it ever wanted peace talks. That would get in the way of the Greater Israel. I feel very sorry for the genuine Israeli people who do want peace - you have governments that don't. It is time the world stopped kow-towing to Israel. The US can't be part of the solution because they are part of the problem, continually propping up Israel financially and in the Security Council. Other countries give support to Israel in different ways, including the right to have the country in the first place. No more. All financial and other aid should be stopped by all decent countries until Israel learns that if it wants to be a genuine citizen of the world, it has to abide by the rules. Otherwise, the UN should rescind the motion that created modern Israel and give the country back to its rightful owners, the Palestinians.
erm ...... isn't that what the settlements do ?
The government of the United States is a creature of the Constitution. Our officials don't have any authority to do things here or overseas that doesn't flow from that document.
