Deputy FM Ayalon: Iran regime may be replaced this year
Speaking in Tel Aviv, Ayalon says world is uniting against a nuclear Iran, sanctions likely this month.
By Haaretz Service and Barak Ravid Tags: Middle East peace Iran nuclearDeputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon on Saturday said he believes that after the sanctions the international community will impose against Iran over its nuclear program, it could very well lead to a regime change in Tehran.
"It is not certain that the regime in power now in Iran will be there in one year," Ayalon said at a question-and-answer session in Tel Aviv.
"The world is uniting against Iran's nuclear program and within a month there will be United Nations Security Council sanctions," Ayalon said. "There is agreement in Washington, Moscow and Beijing that a nuclear Iran would destroy the current world order."
Iran warned on Saturday that the West has until the end of the month to accept Tehran's counterproposal to a United Nations-drafted plan on a nuclear exchange, or the country will start producing nuclear fuel on its own.
Ayalon also addressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent efforts to relaunch peace talks with the Palestinians, saying, "The Palestinians need to understand that time is working against them," Channel 10 news reported.
He added that he believes the U.S. administration understands that the essential problem is that the "Palestinians aren't willing to be flexible in their approach."

Is there *any* Israeli politician who thinks past (a) This is what I want, therefore (b) This is what will happen Apparently not.....
If Israel waits for sanctions to have effect they will be waiting next year ,the next , adinfinitement. Can anyone tell us when sanctions had an effect on a terrorist state?Besides Obama has already indicated to the US Congress that he would not support effective(?) sanctions.Hopefully the leaders of Israel won't wait too long. Unfortunately the Iranian rulers have enough support to put down any rebelion that may occurr.Of course Israels leaders do have the power to upset the Iranian internal balance but it seems they are chicken and lousy strategists.
Mr. Dany Ayalon, if Iran's regime will fall, what advantage is there for Israel to crow it around, specially after the odious regime in Iran is, as usual, using the libel of "Zionist conspiracy"? It is most unwise and unhelpful for Israel to make any comment on internal Iranian affairs.
you and leiberman will be gone soon...good ridence
when does regime change happen in the west?
when do we get to see regime change in the west? maybe we can get a call out to the middle east and russia to come and save us from our war mongers in office? first lets get regime change in the USA, than we can change Britain than isrl and once they are done lets sit back and see how peaceful our world will become. maybe God will hear my plea and save us all of the war mongering creaps so that my Grandchildren can finally see what peace on earth really is.
which is exactly what sanctions will do. But you know, the "West" seems to be America and Israel these days, hardly fitting the rest of the 50+ countries who actually reside in that geographic position around the world's opinion on the situation in which we few the Iranians demand for "some" uranium is hardly a unreasonable counter offer. But why does America keep rejecting it? because it was never the goal in the first place to allow the Iranians to develop nuclear technology whether or not that includes civilian power plants
Clearly -- since previous Israeli administrations offered parts of East Jerusalem and offered (foolishly in my opinion) to take "refugees." If you like to propagate lies you might try do so on sites where they don't know anything about the history of the conflict.
bigger than peress merry christmas and rotchild being a jew.
making shiites fight sunnis it does not work anymore." see what this pupil said? he betrayed the conspiracy. someone is creating conflicts between shiites and sunnis? maybe those "all the terror proceeds from us" and rotchild who is always sponsoring both sides of the conflicts?
Indeed Mr. Ayalon is dearly detached from event in Iran. Any foreign interference such as this, any sanction or any sort of military attack on Iran will only strengthen Ahmadinejad and regimes position at the expense of 1000's Iranian lives. Mr. Ayalon, you need to refrain from interfering in Iranian internal affairs, as you would not want anyone to interfere in internal affairs of Israel.
It is now clear the majority of Iranians do not want Ahmadinejad and ayatollahs in power, the Iranian regim has lost its legitimacy in the eyes of it own people and also the international community. I think next round of sanctions shall not aim at people, it should be very specific to the Iranian regime officials, restriction on Ahmadinejad's administration will accelerate the regime change and will help Iranian nation, they have been suffering a lot for these psychos who are in power and economic sanctions will only weaken the Iranian nation. Persians have proven to the world that they are tired of this government and meanwhile they do not support the nuclear arms policy of their own government. I hope UN will consider this fact and help Iranian nation to get rid of these fascists ayatollahs and decide for their future, and help to build a peaceful world. As Iranian chanted during Qods Day: "No Gaza, No Lebanon, only Republic of Iran"
That is what regime change means ...no?
these bozos? Where? Israeli society is doomed if people like this one or Bibi or the rest are not replaced with intelligent, sensible, responsible individuals, instead of these idiots!
Without either a revolution or civil war, the Iranian SYSTEM of Government will be the same. Same structure. Same 'mad mullahs' Same Revolutionary Guard. Same Supreme Leader. Same same same, just a different political party in power.
Who will that be.? Yeah, sure Mr.Rafsanjani. Not many options. Guess Mr.Ayalon is not that well versed on Iranian Politics. For there will always be a Grand Ayatollah. "The untouchable"! Shalom Dani ve behazlacha im ha chalomot shelcha.
Ayalon may be right but whoever comes still counts Israel an enemy and never deals with the Jewish State and that is for sure. In other words Ayalon is just wasting his time.
it does not work anymore.so what ever will be done, it will not save israel. israel is doomed.mabee if the responsible persons act smart jewish religion will survive.mabee but just mabee. to me the hate that rises agains jews right now is even worse than the one we've seen in third reich!this time it is not only about jewish lifestile or persons..it's about the fundamental rights to create your own belivings and live by it. something really bad is comming up and i'm not sure if the "friends" we have will stand by our side when the problem takes heat!the one's hoping to get egypt and saudis on the one side to fight iran on the other are wrong!find an other solution.quickly.
The same Ayalon who jumped on Norway's FM for meddling in Israel's affairs two days ago? Who, together with his boss managed to insult Sweden, the US, the UK, Egypt, Norway, Venezuela, Iran etc etc in 2009? Maybe the Israeli regime will be replaced next year? Let us keep our fingers crossed.
you both put an ugly fascist snear on zio-diplomacy the was bad enough before....natanyahoo now wants to play the peace game and your style just wont fit for that....you know you got to be a real diplomate not an arrogaNT INSULT TO EVERYONE
I do wonder where he gets this crazy ideas ....
conspiracy. no one need politics anyway. politics is a problem and not a necessary institution. no one need a right to vote corrupted greedy satanic criminal rotchild puppets. they are useless. they create problems and this is all they do.
knowing that they are likely to bounce. Entertaining article though, showing just how detached the Israeli politician is with Planet Earth
It will continue to weaken. Many, probably most, Iranians have not been terribly happy with the stogie ayatollahs and their tendency to repress so much that Persians have always enjoyed. Nor have their religious theories of economic policy been terribly productive. Yet, for the first time in a very long time, Iran had a government which was not a puppet of foreign powers. It had saved Iran from Iraqi domination when the WORLD backed Iraq and no one sided with Iran. The government had a certain legitimacy until it destroyed the illusion of democracy. There is opposition at ALL levels both in the civil government and the religious one. What was a sluggish and disorganized government has become a paralyzed one. Mr. Ayalon might have finally realized what is happening and what it might portend. He might be right, but one thing is certain, the Supreme Dictator and his appointed President are in deep trouble.
Yeah! And I may win the lottery this year too.
Israeli government seems to be going all warm and fuzzy on the inside, being so overjoyed with the prospect of Iran's ruling elite losing the grip on the country. Don't get ahead of yourselves. IMHO this whole affair with Iran government imminent collapse is overblown by Western pro-Israeli media. I doubt it will actually happen. Besides, if Israel has nuclear arms, Iran has a right to them as well, if only so that the balance in the region can be maintained. Nuclear Middle East country is the only thing that can keep Israeli government in check, and prevent them from making less savory moves; like illegal settlment of West Bank or Siege of Gaza. It is a mutual assurance for both sides: Israel and its Arab neighbours. It is the only thing that will ensure that both Palestinians and Israelis become more 'flexible' in their search for an accord.
Between Stockholm and Tehran, Israel of 2009 is much closer to Tehran. From birth to death, from circumcision to funeral, from the establishment of the state to the establishment of the last of the illegal settlements and outposts in the West Bank - Israel is operating in the shadow of the commandments of religion. Israelis should be honest with themselves and admit it already: The country is too religious and its going to be like Saudi Arabia ------The army dominates Israel in a way not seen in western democracies. If the IDF goes religious then so does Israel and it`s goodbye to any idea of Israel being a western democrcacy. If Ashkenazi doesn`t think the IDF can be trusted to confront the settlers, then Israel`s got real problems. No progress on finding the mosque-burners? What about those settlers who spray-painted stars of David on muslim graves? Were they ever caught?
Like Israel is? Israel is not willing to even say they will freeze construction in East Jerusalem and lie about a settlement freeze in the rest of the West Bank. If the settlement freeze were true and honest maybe we could say that Israel is flexible. But no, Israel says one thing and does the other when it comes to little issues. When it comes to big issues, East Jerusalem or refugees, Israel isn't willing to talk about it at all. That's not being flexible.
It's time for all Western Governments to realize that Khamenei and Ahmadinejad are a danger not only to the Middle East, but to the entire world. All Western countries must unite against the tyrannical Khamenei/Ahmadinejad regime. So far the United Nations have been giving Iran slaps on the wrist. the tougher the sanctions the better.
Finally WE think we know who will going to do FIRST.
The Iranian regime continues in a position of strength as the results of recent demonstrations have shown. The desire of both Russia and China to prevent an escalation of sanctions has made clear the fallacy of believing that the UN will do anything at all to prevent Iran becoming a nuclear power. US interest is now shifting to the situation in Pakistan, an established nuclear power, where the state is in imminent danger of failure, that would allow extreme Islamic elements to chance to obtain nuclear material. The latter is an example of 'clear and present danger' to US interests, Iran is a mere sideshow!
I tend to disagree with the Deputy FM. Iran's regime today is not as week as the Shah's in 1979. Previous sanctions against Irq failed to produce the results deputy FM eludes to in his report, mainly due to the iron fist policy AND the continued support to the present Iranian administration. This internal support has marginalized the opposition and rendered it ineffective. I believe the only solution is a forced regime change and irradication of the Mullah's. And in this situation, time is Not on the west's or Israel's side.
