Civil guard volunteer dies of wounds after stabbed by Shlomi man
Mentally unstable man attacks cop and volunteer who arrived at his house after he called police threatening to harm relatives.
By Jack Khoury and Haaretz CorrespondentA 68-year-old civil guard volunteer who was seriously wounded by a 21-year-old man from the northern Galilee town of Shlomi on Tuesday died of his wounds after losing a large amount of blood.
The volunteer and a police officer were both stabbed earlier in the afternoon after arriving at the house of a man threatening to harm his brother and mother.
Magen David Adom sources the police officer sustained moderate wounds to his forehead and eye, while the volunteer suffered serious wounds to his upper leg.
The suspect stabbed both of them as they attempted to arrest and handcuff him, and fled the scene.
The sources said the volunteer had lost a large amount of blood and was evacuated to a hospital in Nahariya.
The suspect was arrested at a Shlomi gas station after Galilee Police Commissioner Danny Hadad deployed a large number of officers to search for him in the area.
