CIA catches Iranian trying to buy arms 'for war against U.S.'

Amir Hussein Aldabili allegedly sent to Georgia by Tehran to buy parts for fighter jets and missile systems.

By Haaretz Service Tags: Iran Israel news

An Iranian businessman was caught on tape by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency attempting to purchase weapons and military systems during a clandestine deal in Georgia.

Amir Hussein Aldabili was allegedly sent by the Iranian government to entice arms dealers to sell him sensitive parts for fighter jets and missile systems.

What Aldabili did not know is that these supposed arms dealers were CIA agents, who arrested him during the sting operation. He was later tried in the U.S. and sentenced to five years in prison.

Aldabili told the agents during the transaction that Iran believes a war is coming. "If the US comes to war we should have? defenses [ready]," he told them.

Tehran has denied connection to Aldabili.

I am almost positive that the man's name should be "Ardabili" (as in the city of Ardabil in NW Iran)instead of Aldabili. Right?

Iranians are not as oppressed as the Egyptians or the Saudis. The recent events, me believes and also stated by the opposition speakers, are all works of a hidden hand trying to distrupt Iran. You know who I'm talking aboutç

They won't attack. They needn't attack. Iranians are so oppressed that they will "take freedom or die". Its pretty awful to be ruled by madmen.

More and more stuff seem to indicate the US is seriously thinking about attacking Iran. There's usualy a few dozen articles like this to get the public opinion. Yesterday it was Iran trying to smuggle uranium from Kazakstan. When was he caught? This news seems to suggest he was just caught. But it then says he was later tried in the US and sentenced to five years in prison. Must have been some time ago.

to meet with israeli arms dealers. They are in the neighborhood and they will be more than happy to accomodate Irans needs. They had in the past ( Iran/Contra Affair for example) . Sending their man to GA would not achieve anything. Congress would object to any such deals nor would it be prudent of the Obama Adminsitration. Now leave it to ther Israeli merchants of death , they will get the stuff from America , and sell it to the Iranians ( get it free and sell it high) and the Obama Adminstration nor does Congress dare say anything to Israel. A win win situation....
