A Channel 2 broadcasting company chief was severely beaten on Monday by a couple of unidentified assailants near his north Tel Aviv home.
Keshet CEO Avi Nir was assaulted as he was walking his dog in the neighborhood of Ramat Hahayal on Monday evening. As he was approaching a dark park, the two assailants moved toward him and asked him whether he was "Avi Nir from the television." When he confirmed, they started battering him with planks of wood.
A neighbor who heard Nir's cries for help and saw his dog running away called the police and a Magen David Adom emergency services ambulance. By the time they arrived, the attackers had fled the scene. Nir sustained head injuries and was taken to Ichilov hospital. Medical officials said he was lightly hurt.
Having launched an investigation, North Tel Aviv police are seeking whether Nir was embroiled in a dispute with some organization of any kind. He was interrogated Tuesday morning and said he had no clue who might want to attack him.
