Ceremony marks 25th anniversary of attack on Israeli envoy to U.K.
Officials lay wreath outside London hotel where attack took place sparking outbreak of 1st Lebanon War.
By Haaretz ServiceProminent Jewish and Israeli officials on Monday attended a London ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the attempted assassination by Palestinian gunmen of Israel's then ambassador to Britain, Shlomo Argov.
The ceremony, held outside the Dorchester hotel where Palestinian militants opened fire on Argov in 1982, was attended by Rabbi Abraham Levy, Lord Levy, Israeli Ambassador to the U.K. Zvi Heifetz and Sir Malcolm Rifkind.
A wreath was laid in honor of Argov, who was seriously wounded in the attack and remained hospitalized until his death in 2003.
The shooting was one of the main causes for the outbreak of the First Lebanon War.

to believe, an instant, just a fleeting instant, that the shooting was a cause of the invasion is an extremely sad, and cretinistic, joke. 20 000 persons were killed because of an attemps on Argiv's life ? Come on, Haaretz ! Come on !
What is the point of using the word "militants" instead of terrorists in this context? Is there still any doubt as to the facts behind the event? What is the assasination of unarmed diplomat, that is was involved directly or indirectly in violence? If that isn't terrorism, I don't know what is. When the IRA gunned down people in the U.K. it was called terrorism, but when Palestinians gun down Jews they are labeled "militants". Why?
Usually Ha'aretz's errors in English usage are pretty dull -- but the caption below the picture for this article is an exception. '...reputed British Jews.' Do they deny the accusation? Is there any foundation to the charge?
