Brother suspected of wounding sister in 'family honor' attack
24-year-old Israeli Arab woman found on side of road in critical condition with multiple stab wounds.
By Jack Khoury and Haaretz CorrespondentPolice on Tuesday arrested a Western Galilee man suspected of stabbing his sister in an attack apparently related to "family honor" issues.
The 24-year-old woman, a resident of the Muslim village Sha'ab in the Western Galilee, was found on the side of a road in critical condtion. She had deep stab wounds to her neck and body.
Police arrested her 32-year-old brother, and suspect him of stabbing her because he believe she violated "family honor" codes.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sha'ab residents noticed the woman lying on the side of the road and immediately called police and an Magen David Adom ambulance.
Paramedic Amos Dadon, who was first on the scene, said the woman was lying on her back and blood was gushing from her neck.
The victim was taken to a hospital in Nahariya in critical condition. Hospital officials reported that the woman underwent surgery and is currently in intensive care.
Misgav police chief Ilan Harush said police are checking numerous leads, including an option that the motive to the stabbing was to preserve "family honor."
Harush said that the quick reactions of MDA and police saved the young woman's life and enabled security forces to collect evidence, which led to the brother's arrest.
Police will seek an extension of the suspect's remand on Wednesday.

I support so many things when it comes to Palestinians, Arabs & Muslims maintaining their own culture, religion, etc. (the positive parts--as the rest of us should maintain the positives/get rid of the negatives). I have Palestinian, Arab & Muslim friends & value my friendship them [yes we've talked about this & other/negatives in mine]. However-- One thing I don't support is the unnecessary use of violence/the use of violence as a first solution...the use of violence to have/restore honor...by [SOME] Palestinians, Arabs & Muslims. There are so many other ways to resolve issues/issues like these. None of them require killing. ...None of them require harm to the victim instead of/rather than to the perpetrator (person who did the act, rape, crime). Life-- Is too precious to take it/give it...when it's not required to do so. I Invite Honor Killings, Etc. Believers-- To look at other cultures & see how "honor" issues, etc....are no longer solved with killing.
The so called "honor" crimes have nothing to do with religion but rather the way the family is veiwed by friends and relatives. When a female member of the family is known by the neighborhood to be committing immoral sexual acts the family kills her. HOWEVER if a man does the same thing NOTHING is done. Typical double standard of arab thinking. Hope he gets life in prison.
ALL religions have their nutjobs and ultra radical crazies who make the whole religion look nuta. But their are also those who benefit greatly and lead good lives from their religioins and chosen faiths. Blaming this girls religion is wrong. Everyone jumping in to hate Pals even more, are just adding illogic and fuel to a fire that is long past its time for burning out. I wish people could just have compassion and sympathy for this girl.............period. I bet she would juts love to hear how she was an awful Palestian, etc etc. get a grip people! This is a human being, how about some respect for HER??
After years in Woodford Green I just can't break the habit of writing Essex at the end of my address! Even after 8 years out of there! I don't do it in Ivrit needless to say! I guess you can take the man from Essex but you can't take Essex from the man. Essex is, I guess, not just a geographical location, but a state of mind. Innit!
This horror happens too often, but it is not restricted to Arab society. There are plenty of Jews who kill their spouse and sometimes also their children. This is a case of violence against women, which must be condemned everywhere. Women are victims of male violence in all sectors of society. The ones who must act faster are the police, who do not do enough to stop such killings, and people who know what's going on in the family/community but do nothing to stop this.
Whether or not Sharia is a basis for such a barbaric and inexcusable attack, or it stems from a backward and wrong-minded ultra-conservatism, this woman's personal religious views are not what engendered this attack. If her brother did indeed do this, her own religious beliefs are not the issue. It would be the flawed and criminal views of the male members of her family, who consider this acceptable under any circumstances, that are to blame.
When I was growing up in Woodford Green, I never knew that Tel Aviv was in the same county! :-)
If not, how will it ever become different? Everyone concerned must shift from arguing about "what land belongs to whom," and begin thinking seriously about "under what type of laws and rules will the land be administered, no matter by whom." Until then, putting more land under PA jurisdiction will certainly increase the area and population in which we can expect to see more of this barbaric, misogynistic behavior. Shouldn't Muslim women have human rights too?
If islam is truly a tolerant religion, then muslim leaders should speak against such hideous acts, but will they?
While I don't agree with your whole answer, you can extrapolate what would happen by recalling what happened to Israeli ARABS when they were involved in a traffic accident in the Sinai south of Eilat. The Egyptian authorities took the victims to Cairo (4 hours away) instead of Eilat 20-30 minutes by ambulance. Many died needlessly and this was Arabs treating Arabs. The fact that the vitims lived in Israel made them defacto Zionists and not worthy of prompt treatment.
Good work MDA fellahs! My best wishes for a speedy recovery to the victim. Under normal circumstances I would tell the family my thoughts are with them but in this case it is evident that she doesn't have one. At least not in the sense that we understand a family. I hope her brother goes down for life.
Let's see....Because she was wearing 'provocative' clothing, she would be gang-raped, and then have her wounds enlarged, and then maybe run over for good measure. Maybe the crew would dip their hands in her blood, to prove what freedom-fighters they are. Yup, the 'religion-of-peace' once again proves to the world what sick, pathetic beliefs they hold dear. The brother should be made an example for all other would-be honor-murderers to examine: death by hanging. Maybe these 'men' wouldn't be so quick to kill their sisters, mothers, girlfriends, and daughters if they knew they would positively end up on the short end of a noose. Why don't the women murder their men for the same 'abuses'?? Certainly the men are more guilty than any woman. What a double-standard! When will Arab women wake up! You do not have to take this! Call the police (Israeli) when you think your family is dangerous- maybe that will cause your 'menfolk' to become sane. Maybe.
You could be next..... This is how they (the ones you romanticize as "victims") behave at home with the ones they actually love.
That goes to show that MDA help all regardless of their name and symbol. They also employ from all sectors. Unlike apherthide SA.
Dear lady, I hope you survive this brutal attack by your own brothers. Only in Islam is this possible. Come to your senses and leave the religion that allowed this to happen to you. Convert to our peaceful religion and experience the freedom we Jewish women enjoy. We get respect from our male family members. Hope you get well soon!
