Bomb detonates near Egged bus on J'lem-Hebron highway

By Haaretz Service, Nir Hasson and Amos Harel

An explosive device was detonated near an Egged bus travelling on the Jerusalem-Hebron road, near the Al-Arub refugee camp, on Thursday evening. No injuries were reported, although the bus, line 160, was damaged.

In Sderot on Thursday, five residents were treated for shock after two Qassam rockets fired from Gaza landed in the city. In response to the launches, the Israel Defense Forces set up roadblocks to cut the Gaza Strip into three isolated sections.

One of the rockets hit a storage shed outside a house; the other landed in an open field. The roadblocks - which the IDF also set up following rocket fire on Sderot last week, but later removed - were erected at the Gush Katif Junction and on the coastal road.

There were also other incidents in Gaza on Thursday: Four mortar shells were fired at the settlement of Morag; IDF forces found a 40-kilogram bomb south of the Karni checkpoint; and there were a few exchanges of gunfire with Palestinian forces. No one was hurt in these incidents.

In the West Bank, an unarmed Palestinian was lightly wounded near the settlement of Elon Moreh when the settlement's security coordinator opened fire at him. The man, who is apparently mentally disturbed, had approached the settlement's security fence, and the security coordinator feared that he was a terrorist.

There were also shooting incidents in the Nablus casbah, but no one was hurt.

Also on Thursday, a military court sentenced Fatah operative Mundar Nur to life plus 30 years for having recruited the first female suicide bomber, Wafa Idris. Idris blew herself up in Jerusalem's Jaffa Road in January 2002, killing one person and wounding about 150.
