Bill Clinton hails Israel relief mission to Haiti
'I don't know what we would have done without the Israeli hospital at Haiti,' Clinton tells Peres.
By Haaretz Service Tags: Bill Clinton Israel newsBill Clinton, the former U.S. president and current UN special envoy to Haiti, told President Shimon Peres on Thursday that he was grateful for Israel's role in aiding victims of the devastating earthquake that rocked the Caribbean island earlier this month.
"Shimon, I don't know what we would have done without the Israeli hospital at Haiti," Clinton told the president during the Davos economic forum in Switzerland on Thursday. "The Israeli hospital was the only operational facility which was able to perform surgery and advanced tests."
"In the name of the aid workers that operated in Haiti, in the name of the people who live there, and on a personal level I want to thank, we all want to thank, Israel from the bottom of our hearts," Clinton said.
In response, Peres said Israel "will be happy" to help in the reconstruction of Haiti.

Priority was given to the US for one reason. They were in control. A massive airlift was underway. More than 200.000 Haitians died. Thousands were injured. More than a million needed water and food. Israel was given top priority in setting up a field hospital with the most efficient medical staff to hit the Island in the first 5 days. The other NGO·s were not excluded, simply it was a question of timing, logistics and most of all the "trauma" that had to be addressed. One cannot even dispute the US Military and its dedication, less so Israel and its team of doctors, nurses, and medical technicians. For we must also not to forget those, Doctors Without Borders, OXFAM, the Red Cross and the millions of donors throughout the world. For once, the world became one great nation, helping those so far away. Good day.
As I mentioned before, many political figures and a sprinkling of bankers and financial wizards. The latter huddled, some with frowns, many are worried, it seems that the Global Economy will not recover that quickly. The laughter and some serious drinking is on the political spectrum. They are having fun. Regarding Israel/Haiti, yes its true. Many of those political folk are impressed, also it is time for some more sober statements vis a vis the Palestinian State. This year will be crucial for Israels "Foreign Affairs". Shalom Avigdor...? Good day from very snowy almost blizzard conditions in Davos, Switzerland.
The Israeli team did a great job in Haiti, why not just be happy and proud of that.
Israelis did a very good and very fast thing here which helped countless people in Haita. Please don't hate them. The problem is with the government pr teams trying to milk it to deflect from their own immoral actions closer to home. Feel free to pester them!
The airport was destroyed and had to be rebuilt. The US rebuilt it and built two new airports. Half the Haitian government, including police and army were killed outright. The US has about 10,000 on the ground still pulling live ones and bodies out of the rubble. We also have a hospital ship and a carrier task force that re-opened the port and supplies about 400,000 of fresh potable water daily. The US has sent about $1.5 million in aid so far. And most of that is private money, partially raised by Clinton and Bush and Hollywood and the Music industry in the US. Some of US donated thru the Red Cross, some through UNICEF, some through other orgs. Have you donated yet?
Why did the US military originally prevent various humanitarian flights from landing in Haiti, giving priority landing to US military/hardware, and of course Israel? Bottles of water were selling on the black market in Port-au-Prince while the US puppet Haitian president camped out at the Haiti airport!(Reference: World Socialist Web Site) What was/is the US real fear - an uprising in Haiti against its puppet president of Haiti? Protecting US commercial interests in Haiti/new age slavery? Liberation theologist Aristide was elected on a platform of development and social justice, his challenge to Haiti's oligarchy and its international sponsors led to two foreign backed coups and US led invasions. Puppet Duvaliers has needed to have thousands of UN troops to keep his discredited, neoliberal serving government in power! (Reference: Guardian.co.uk 20.1.2010) Naomi Klein has got it right! "Bill Clinton, the former U.S. president and current UN special envoy to Haiti" Bill Clinton along with George W. Bush are two great choices for getting aid to Haiti. Yes, what would the aid mission have done without the contributions of Israel. I want to be sick. Sincerely yours, d.
