Ashdod pedophile gets record 45 years in jail
Gavriel Turgeman, dubbed 'the elusive pedophile,' sentenced for raping five girls, aged 5 to 9.
An Ashdod man was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Monday for raping five girls, aged 5 to 9. The sentence from the Be'er Sheva District Court is the harshest ever handed down in Israel for sex offenses.
Gavriel Turgeman, 51, is to complete serving his time at the age of 96. One of the girls said, "After he was done, he gave me NIS 5 and told me not to tell anyone about it."
The police dubbed him "the elusive pedophile" and caught him at a police roadblock a month after his last rape.
"The defendant left behind five victims; five injured, tormented souls; and five wrecked families," Judge Revital Katz wrote in the verdict.
