Arab source: Mitchell wanted to quit over U.S. bias for Israel
Nazareth paper quotes Palestinian source as saying Obama envoy also fed up with failure to begin talks.
By Jack Khoury Haaretz Service Tags: George Mitchell Israel news Middle East peaceAn Arab political source said Friday that special U.S. Mideast envoy George Mitchell has requested to resign due to his frustration with the way the Obama administration has been handling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to a Nazareth-based daily.
Hadith a-Nass reported that Mitchell's request stemmed partly from to his own failure to advance the resumption of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians and also from his perception that certain elements within the State Department hold biased favor toward Israel.
The White House turned down Mitchell's request, according to Hadith a-Nass.
No verification of the report was available.
Peace talks were halted more than a year ago over the war in the Gaza Strip and have not resumed, due largely to a Palestinian demand that Israel first impose a complete freeze on building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and Israel's refusal to do so.
A new working paper released by the Palestinian indicates that the Palestinian Authority has warned it may abandon its support of the 1993 Oslo Accords, which outlines a two-state solution to the conflict with Israel.
The Palestinians are instead intending to pursue the creation of a binational state between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea, according to a document drafted by the PA's veteran chief negotiator.

The Settlers have done their job, and soon it will B all over 4 the JS.
One to become the 51 star of the US or the 58Th memeber of the Islamic Caliphate, after the Binational state is created.
the only solution 2 peoples for one nation--may All peoples live together and prosper!
the whole world is listening and its citizens have had enough of Israeli terror against the Palestinians. It is Israel who is not listening, and americans like you.
PEACE IS IMPOSSIBLE IF IRAN AND SYRIA CONTINUALLY THREATEN ISRAELS EXISTANCE. D'UH MAYBE THE PALESTENIAN PLIGHT IS RELATED TO THE WHOLE MIDDLE EASTS BELIEF OF DESTROYING ISRAEL. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE A TERRORIST GROUP IS RUNNING THE GOVERNMENT. EVERYONE SEEMS TO FORGET THAT JUSGT A LITLE WHILE AGO HAMAS WERE THROWING FATAH OF BUILDINGS??? YATHATS SOMEONE YOU WANT TO NEGOTIATE WITH. YOUR ALL IGNORANT
Due to Israels intransigances... Peter, you seem to be a fair-minded fellow, here's a question for you and others. Why didn't the Palestinians want THEIR STATE prior to 1967 ?? In 1966 and prior, BEFORE THE DREADED "OCCUPATION" why was no State created for these poor sorry people ?? Another question, Peter. The Palestinian LIBERATION Organization was around in 1964, three years prior to the Occupation. WHAT were the liberating ?? FROM WHOM were they liberating ?? Remember, this was three years before the Occupation, no talk of a State, yet there was a need to liberate. Please, shed some light on this, educate me. Thanks.
the U.S thinks the arabs are dumb
Dino, who can forget Hill KISSING Suha, while she made up her wacky lies about Israel causing AIDS or poisoning the Pals and all her other BS. Hillary just stood there and smiled. Believe it, Hillary is NO FRIEND of Israel. She was MY Senator, unfortunately :)
I heard a story once that there was a night-time janitor who claimed to have visited Israel with an Evangelical Christian group and was personally very pro Israel. When the State Department found out, he was fired on the spot. State claimed it never happened -- that there never has been an employee of the State Department at ANY level (janitor or Ambassador) who ever had a positive feeling for Israel. Still the story of the single janitor persists. Perhaps it's an urban legend.
because our ME policy is biased towards Israel, which is no surprise to the rest of the world. Our biased policy is also the reason there's no peace in the region. And right now, two-state solution won't work either. It's time for democracy; one person, one vote.
Bibi is like Cheney. His political success relies on waging an ongoing war with "the other." And, so it seems, today's Israelis and their apologists stupidly buy right into it. Good luck to Mitchell. He'll need it. Israel hates peace.
Due to israels intransigances and its neocons supporters in the U.S. That is why the Palestinians have no choice but to opt for a one state for all. It should be done peacefully. P.M. Fayad should become the face of the new Palestine and charm the world by his desire to embrace israel and become one country for all. This is the only thing left to try. The world will support this move as they did in South Africa.
Now I know why we never see nor hear her. She is 'la femme perdu', the evil plotting female one behind a man's (Obama) perceived weakness. Well, how do you suppose to win New York while pissing of Israel? Fat chance! It is good that she wins something sometimes too, bitter women are the worst. LOL
If you think there is ever going to be a single binational state to replace the jewish state or if you seriously think there will ever be a right of return then you need to be brought back down to reality. Non of them will ever happen, Israel will remain a jewish state, there will be no right of return and if your people end terror and agree to NEGOTIATE rather than demand that means give as well as take then you might just get a state in the remaining 22% of mandate Palestine. I doubt though that 2 states will be viable either long term To little land, to few recources, a growing population which will also have to take in over 1 million refugees from the arab world but hundreds of thousands of Israeli arabs who Israel will offload onto your state as part of any deal. I know its not a popular idea but the only PRACTICAL one for all side is for Jordan to be the palestinian state, it has everything you could ever need for a sucessful viable state and more and is ready to move into.
.....hold favourite bias towards Israel". Is ist fair to assume, that he meant a certain Hillary C. with that....??? As I said 15 months ago, her appointment was the beginning of the end of a sucessful Obama presidency, at least when it comes to matters of foreign policy related to the ME.... George Mitchell has nothing but confirmed my suspicion.
Mitchell hasn't said anything on the record. Nobody in the Obama administration has said anything. The idea that this administration has been showing bias in Israels favor is rediculous If there has been any bias its been in favor of the palestinians, Obama may not have been able to deliver on all the things he led Abbas to think he could have but the US has been supporting the arabs over Israel. As we have no credible sources to back up this claim knowing the PA and their history its most likely to be all talk to gain sympathy and condemn anybody who doesn't back every single one of their demands. As for the idea of a binational state thats just the arabs living in fantasyland, Israels jewish majority will never allow and its an idea that no western politician would even have the courage to propose because it could mean the end of the career which is why they only ever talk about 2 states its the only thing they can propose without risking their jobs. So nothing to worry about.
because only american india are the true abitant of america!!
and DC battle hardened diplomat. He knows who the shakers and movers in DC are. To suggest that he just came to the realization about who exerts true political power in DC , underestimates the intelligence of this man....
where your parent come from ? you and the rest of american are from somewhere else! me included is I came from Italy!! so your moran answer was out of place! Is time for american to stop being bias and be a honest broker or stay out of other country bussiness! period!!!
I am :) and million like me
Jew in Israel are destroying themself they dont need anyone to do it! keep it up natanyahu you are doing a good job :) by the way I am not muslim but I am tired of the american goverment bias when it comes to Israel! is time for american to but out and stop sending my tax dollar in the middle east period! Let the holyroly send their money privately if they wish!
Israel,s greed for land rewarded by losing it all. Palestinians because they did not take this stance much sooner. It could however be argued that the climate was not quite right until after Cast Lead. So israel can be thanked for it,s masterful stroke in helpng to creat the climate in which a Bi Natioanl State can be realised. Weel done Israel.
Yes ur right, the Palestinians are far richer than the Israelis, and Obama is Jewish.... Two of the most idiotic statements ever made! Im elated, Im Palestinian, and I always wanted one bi-national state solution, not because I hate Jews, or care enough, or idiotically hold a grudge against them, but because Im a Palestinian '48er, and I want my right to return, to my home which happens to be in Jaffa (Tel Aviv), not Ramallah. It may be selfish, but a two state solution was always going to be extremely biased against the Palestinians, and it was gut wrenching to know that the Palesitnians might have to accept it, to prevent future bloodshed on both sides.
When I first read this story, my immediate reaction was to point out that Mitchell's mother migrated from the Middle East and became a US citizen only through her marriage to Mitchell's father. Thanks for pointing out where Mitchell's loyalties lie, and why.
This is the smartest thing I have heard the Palestinian leadership say in a very long time. The fig leaf that the PA has given Israel as the latter quadrupled its settler population in the West Bank needed to drop a long time ago. Unfortunately, it stayed there long enough that a two-state solution is no longer feasible (unless you are on dope). The Palestinians must rise, dissolve PA, demand citizenship in the state of Israel with equal rights and obligations. They have far better chance realizing this than getting a feeble diced up state.
The Pals are merely using the idea of a single nation as a tactic on the route to destroy any form of a state of Jews in the Middle East,or for that matter anywhere else. The concepts of freedom and democracy as exemplified by the existing Jewish State or any of the western countries is an anathema to traditional Muslims.
but I don't ever recall Hamas using the word "Peace". Enlighten me. As for the Settler issue and the sheer foolery of the Netanyahu government, I totally agree, time is running out. With the Triad of Iran, Syria and Lebanon currently adopting the roles of the Marx Brothers (Ahmadinejad of course as Groucho) I don't expect to see much of the Middle East survive the War that will soon errupt, once Iran's Nukes are in place.
Because Arabs have bought many politicians and countries with lotsa $$$$ it doesnt mean Israel is about to be shut down.
Well israel wont win wars. Israel wont win in votes.. Guess who killed israel ??? its settlers. they were too greedy to accept a 2 state solution and now like in every greedy move they will lose all that they dream of. better a 2 state solution before its a 1 state solution and guess what you wont be majority ? so why even fool yourselfs. if you do a expulsion or genocide you will lose the regional war So why fool yourselfs ?
Well, the state department is filled with Anti-Israeli sentiment and has been for years. So he ( Mitchell) must be referring to Hiliary Clinton. Lotsa luck politically Mitchell!
information regarding American Administration. I believe them.
Any nay sayers.
That would explain his bias in favor of Israel.
and the entire world, except Israel, knows time is against Israel. Day after day Israel is losing it's bargaining chips and sooner rather than later it will have none left. After that it will be Pals terms or no terms. Israel must chose now between peace and lasting existence or an obscure destiny at the hands of the settlers who are Israel's worst enemy.
Fantastic idea....and let the breeding war begin. And of course all those Pal living in other countries get passports as well as every Jew living abroad has that option today. So let the new Israeli-Palistinian country coexist and be the only regional democractic country that it claims to be!
