Arab channels to broadcast show depicting IDF soldiers as murderers

Turkish produced show caused diplomatic uproar with image of soldier shooting smiling little girl.

By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news

Arab television channels are planning to air the controversial Turkish Television show that depicts Israel Defense Force soldiers shooting innocent Palestinians, the French news agency AFP reported on Saturday.

The drama, which includes images of Israeli soldiers shooting a smiling young girl in the chest, steamrolling a tank through a crowded street and lining up a firing squad to shoot at a group of Palestinians, sparked outrage in Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said of the show when it aired in October of 2009, "We are disappointed by the incitement on Turkish television and we are not very happy by the trends we are seeing in Turkey of late."

The art director at the Turkish production agency responsible for creating the show said that it has been sold to both a Saudi Arabian channel as well as a Dubai based channel.

The channels are reportedly planning on airing the series, officially called "Separation: Palestine in Love and In War" as soon as Saturday.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also expressed anger over the original airing of the show, saying "broadcasting this series is incitement of the most severe kind, and it is done under government sponsorship."

Diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey have deteriorated since Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip in late 2008, which Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his cabinet in Ankara adamantly criticized.

"Israel should give some thought to what it would be like to lose a friend like Turkey in the future," Erdogan told Euronews in February of this year.

The funny thing about this is that Muslims are 'happy' to kill young girls. When the suicide bombers kill people they don't care whether they are babies, children, women, or even other Muslims.

... quite true Mark, but let us not forget the reaction [of certain govenments, Turkey included] when a particluar cartoon was published in Denmark and of Fatwas issued by Islamic Governments against authors and politicians. My, my - do you really think the Tuskish government doesn't indulge in censorship? Do you wish to tell me the Turkish government condones freedom of speech (or is it only on certain issues)? Credit yourelf with more intelligence, please.

each other while the self deluding fellow travellers pretend there is only one problem on this planet and anything Arabs do is a direct result of that. A very incomplete list would be:- Lybia in Chad Yemen proxy war between Egypt and Saudis. Daddy Assad in Hama At least a million Arabs who have killed each other in Algeria,so far. Brother Saddaam and the Kurds The ongoing suporession and occupation of Kurdistan The almost daily suicide bombings in the Moslem world. You can search the net for the casualties, its in the millions. PS At leat on 2 occasions Arabs used WMD's in these conflicts.

Just wondering, how can the above scenes be seen as antisemitic or whatever, {are these scenes being staged by non IDF) or are they just showing what amounts to un-censored news footage ?

How is this going to enhance Palestinian/Israeli dialogue? Usually governments cannot interfere with TV programs, but in Saudi Arabia and Dubai they can. It might be helpful if Mrs. Clinton made a serious telephone call to the Saudi Foreign Minister and his Dubai counterpart.

It is not as if nobody ever heard of TV and Movie production in Israel. Make your own competing story and show just how humane your soldiers are. Show how they saved Gazan children from the Hamas-monster and slew the Gorgon of Islam using the Medusa of kindness. Or hire an American story teller. Some Jews in the US make pretty good movies. And ours know some pretty good Arabic language capable actors, too.

Get real, you have lost your innocence long ago and should stop trying to be the victim. I eally hope our government here will finally wake up and stop sending you my tax dollars, so that you can build more settlements and with this create new terrorists. I use to be great admirer of Israel, sitting at the radio every day during the six day war, hoping you would pull it off and being glad you pulled it off. But today, I am only sad and disgusted to see what happened with Israel.

They are strategically situated; are a large market for EU goods; produce a wide variety of good quality products; are an EU porthole to the Muslim world. Having Turkey in the EU would create opportunities for the EU. Take the Israeli situation for contrast. Selling the product of stolen land brings the EU into disrepute.

The all Turkish cast, depicting both Palestinians and IDF soldiers will actually cause an uproar in both Saudi Arabia and Dubai. It may well backfire on those governments. For the masses will take to the streets. Denouncing their governments close relationship with the USA, bringing another smile to Mr.Bin Laden. Who spends more time chuckling, over those silly infidels, fighting a losing battle in holy Muslim poppy-fields. Then, we must not forget the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in these countries that are considered second class citizens. Pathetic behavior for responsible governments. I wonder whether these sheiks, emirs or kings and princes realize that.? I guess not. Israel and Turkey have had so many positive and thoughtful relations, that are now in tatters, mainly due to thoughtless political grandstanding by both governments. Have a nice evening in beautiful Istanbul.

Whatever happens in the territories does not mean one can just show lies on a tv show and portray it as the truth. Israeli soldiers never shot girls point blank for instance. Those who claim this series is not incitement and anti semitic should think about it whether or not the Turks have not been committing genocide against the Armenians or better been saint in the brutal fight against the Turks. Whether or not the you like Israeli Jews it remains a fact that in the Arab and Muslim world much worse things happen and these are totally ignored by those supporting the showing of this anti semitic series. Moreover, I as an Israeli Jew do not feel any need to compromise with people who focus only on our negatives and ignore their own faults. Arabs should first clean up their own house like celebrating the Sudanese president who is a mass murderer, or Assad who murdered Hariri senior or the Iranian regime for that matter.

Lawrence of Arabia was not unsympathetic to the Arabs. Of course it still portrayed the Arabs as backwards, brutal, and boorish. But if you made a movie about Arabs riding around on camels in business suits, delivering medicines to poor people, and working on irrigation projects rather than shooting up the Infidels, how would your brain be able to process it, whether you were Muslim or Infidel? I am 100% sure that no IDF soldier in real life ever did anything like that scene with the young girl.

However when muslims make a movie expose the struggle of a nation is quickly considered as anti-semitic and evil.

The Israelis might not be perfect, and they may be making mistakes in defending themselves against the ocean of hostility that surrounds them, but the Turks are not in any way qualified to be making films about Israeli 'injustice'. If the Turks want to make films about injustice, how about making a film of the violence being inflicted on defenseless minorities living on occupied land controlled by the Turks. How about a film regarding the Christians who had their throats cut in Malatya a couple of years ago for handing out bibles - the religion of the EU. Oh, how about a film about the continued violent occupation of Cyprus. Hypocrites.

Talk about a double standard. Arabs and Muslims are 99.999% the adversary in shows/movies with Arab and/or Muslim characters in them. You can't turn around without some show and/or movie depicting them all as bloodthirsty savages. Now watch, the usual people will say, "But they are! All they do is murder and blow stuff up!" The usual racist generalizations, in other words. Why not group them all together, in the minds of bigots and racists. Using that logic, then someone can turn around and say that all Israelis are not interested in peace, but rather more Palestinian land, Palestinian blood, and to break their spirits. How would the apologists/racists feel about such a generalization? You want to condemn this show? Fine, as it should be. But do not do so without condemning the blatantly racist double standard employed in shows/movies throughout the Western world.

    • bernard ross
    • 20.03.10

The publishing of lies with the intent to create hatred against a people is usually followed by direct incitement to genocide. As this is the history of the jewish people, known by those publishing the material, what else could be the motive of the turkish state that condones it and the arabs/muslims who distribute it. Isn't there a case in the world court? If the world court does not take action Israel must find ways to take its" ow action as with Eichmann and the six day war. A good start, with many advantages, is to seize the saudi oil fields which have funded terror and anti semitic violence for decades. It will dramatically reduce terror funding, it will give Israel leverage over global oil supply, it will give energy independence, to dissuade enemies and their supporters, it will lessen effect of inevitable global sanctions, it will give massive capital for military technological developments, it will wean Israel of US aid, it will provide land for relocating 5th column.

Turkey is pathetic... They might as well create a show based on the protocols of the elders of zion. As some one who has been in Gaza, the fact is that most of the children shot have guns on them. This makes them combatants. Plain And simple

I admit this current film is particularly vile and libelous but nothing new to see here as this kind of hatred has been occurring for decades in Muslim nations worldwide.

    A waste of money

The Turks being so concerned about injustices should have spent their money creating films much closer to reality and much closer to subjects that are related to them; for example, how about a film about the violent suppression of the Kurds, or a film about three Christians in Malatya who had their throats cut because they were handing out bibles (the religion of the EU that Turkey has applied to join). Or how about the even more violent invasion of Cyprus and the subsequent cleansing of half the population through rape and murder on an industrial scale. Does this ring a bell? How about a film about the living standards of Turkey, where over half the population lives in poverty, yet they have money to organize demonstrations against Israel and produce pathetic racist films. It is far easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than the Turks to join the EU, or any part of the civilized world for that matter. Hypocrites.

    Demonization of Israel

There is a regrettable demonization of Israel going on and not just in Muslim countries. It is spreading all over the world. This movement is picking momentum with the irresponsible politics of the Netanyahu government. The announcement of new constructions in Eat Jerusalem, the humiliation of Joe Biden, Lieberman's stubborn response to the quartet announcement yesterday and the new bashing of Gaza are only pouring oil on fire. It is time the Israeli people see the light, kick this disastrous government out and put pressure on their politicians to resume the peace talks a.s.a.p. Give the Palestinians a state and your image will improve.
