A few days ago, Haaretz published an article regarding mad Mahmoud's kind suggestion that Europe take back Jews from Israel. This article received more posts than articles first reporting denial of Holocaust, more than threats to wipe Israel off the map. The vast majority of posts were sent by average Americans, by the heartland of America. These posts expressed outrage by decent, hardworking Americans. The message was clear: the mortal danger to all of us is to the east, east of Israel. Stop fighting about something relatively unimportant. The issue of the day is nuclear Iran.

I hope the two former AIPAC employees stand firm in their not guilty pleas and not accept a government offer of a minor sentence such as probation in exchange for a guilty plea. The actions of a couple of Jews in America does not erase the hundreds of years of Jewish history in the U.S.A. before there ever was an Israel. Jews helped create the United States of America, have contributed vast amounts of time, money, brain power, blood, sweat and tears alongside Christians and those of other faiths. I have noticed the absence of the word 'espionage' in this article. Sharing sensitive information of one country with another is espionage no matter how you present it. The Franklin-Rosen-Weisman-Naor affair reeks with espionage and had Mr. Franklin not reached a plea bargin, he would have probaly received a 25-year sentence. How can Mr, Foxman be confused about what's happened, and how can Mr. Hoenlein in a straight face call AIPAC's Rosen & Weissman "two patriotic American citizens ... who did nothing to violate the American security", when they have shared sensitive US Pentagon information with Israeli diplomats?

Franklin's prosecution was a response to his violating US laws - not as a threat to lobbyists, Jewish or otherwise. All the defendants were at liberty to advocate their political views, and oppose US policies - that's democracy. The misuse of classified information is unlawful. The defendants conduct, not their views, exposed them to criminal sanctions. That an Israeli diplomat may have used the trio to solicit classified information from his country's most important ally, is inexcusable. Apparently the Pollard affair was not a singular abberation.

Congress represents the American people. The majority of Americans will always support Israel. Americans will support the Palestinians once they change their values.
