Nancy, get your history straight my friend, the lebanese army went to the south in the 70s but it defected and became an Israeli agent, lookup General Saad Haddad and Antoinne Lahd commanders of the Southern Lebanese Army. Both Generals were Israeli agents and treated the southern Lebanese people in the same brutal way as the Israeli did. That is why the resistance came into existance, that is why Hizbolla was created and started to fight the corrupt Southern Lebanese Army and the occupying Israeli army from 1982 till the withdraw of 2000. They were only laid down in large numbers in the last 72 hours of the war (prior to the cease-fire)because the IDF realized they could not win the war against Hezbollah militarily in the time remaining ... but (with cluster bombs) they could deny Hezbollah use of the land between the border and the Litani River for a while (?12 - 15 months). Assuming that this WAS the reason for using these disgusting weapons, there is no way that the IDF would offer to clean them up. The fact that unexploded cluster bombs are an equal menace to the civilian population doesn't even enter into the equation.

I wonder if anyone in Israel is concerned that the legacy of the use of cluster bombs in the final days of the Lebanon invasion will be the deaths and maiming of perhaps hundreds of innocent men,women and children over the next few years ? M.

A 70-old farmer is seriously wounded tending his land. He is only the most recent victim of those left-over cluster bombs. More victims will surely follow until the left-over cluster bombs are cleaned up. Why can't the IDF volunteer to help clean them up. The offer will almost surely be rejected, but it should be made anyway because it will show that Israel is concerned and is trying to mend the relationship between her and Lebannon.

Why did Israel drop 80% of the cluster bombs on Lebanon in the final hours of the war when all countries including Israel agreed on a cease fire? But the most serious part of the report is another explosion of Israeli cluster bombs, wounding (thank God, only wounding!) civilians. If Israel wants the world to see the IDF as the `most moral army in the world` then the total banm on cluster bombs would be a good first step.
