6 rightists detained after armed brawl with Arabs in Jerusalem
Rightists came to south Jerusalem neighborhood claiming ownership of Arab home; four Arabs hurt during fight.
By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news East JerusalemIsrael Police on Friday detained six right-wing Jews involved in a brawl with Arabs in the south Jerusalem neighborhood Beit Safafa.
Gunshots were fired during the brawl, leaving four Arabs lightly wounded.
The two sides were apparently fighting over ownership of a house in the neighborhood, according to the police officers who arrived at the scene.
The rightists, all of them in their 50s, fled the scene, but were located and arrested soon after. They claimed that had opened fire after the Arabs had threatened them.
They told police that they had come to the neighborhood with a deed proving their ownership of a house. A brawl broke out a few minutes later.
Fights between Jews and Arabs regarding him ownership have been going on for years, particularly in Jerusalem.
Three months ago, two Palestinian families were evicted from their home in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem after a Jewish family claimed owernship.
