The Population Administration announced Sunday, as part of the Interior Ministry's preparations for elections to the 17th Knesset, that 5,018,287 people are registered to vote, according to the initial voter registry.

The Population Administration will update its voter registry by February 2, close to the March 28 elections, and determine the final numbers.

The Interior Ministry said Sunday that 8,500 polling stations will be established across the country. The polling stations are to receive 50,000 lists of registered voters, arranged in alphabetical order.

An additional 25,000 lists will be sent to the polling stations, identifying the voters by their national identity numbers.

In an effort to allow people to vote even if a mistake has been made in the identifying details that were sent to the local polling councils, the Interior Ministry has added another form of identification: an alphabetical index of voters that will be sent to the regional polling committees, through which it will be possible to amend the erroneous information.

All voters are supposed to receive their voting notices 21 days before the elections, the Interior Ministry said.
