4 residents of Bedouin town in north arrested on suspicion of murder

Faiz Suidan was murdered on Sunday, apparently as part of a feud between two local families; police find revolver in suspects' possession.

Four residents of the northern Bedouin village of Arab al-Aramshe were arrested on Tuesday over suspected involvement in Sunday's murder of a fellow village resident.

A revolver was found in the suspects' possession. The four are scheduled to appear before the Acre Magistrate's Court for an extension of their remand.

Faiz Suidan, a local builder, was shot and killed while driving to work Sunday. Police suspect the murder was a part of an ongoing feud between two Arab al-Aramshe families which sparked a gun battle in the village on Saturday evening.

Many of the villagers serve in the Israel Defense Forces or security forces, and therefore own weapons. Police are concerned about potential vendettas.

A Bedouin resident of the village told Haaretz the feud had begun several years ago. "In the beginning there were random arguments, but hatred has gradually increased. A year ago, a fight between two children triggered a similar shooting." There were no casualties in that incident, only property damage.

A fight erupted between the Ali and Suidan families on Saturday, and members exchanged fire. Police arrived and arrested four members of the Suidan family, but all members of the Ali family fled.

The next day Faiz Suidan was muredered. The 40-year-old was accompanied by his sons, 19 and 20, at the time of the shooting. His family said that he was killed in a pre-meditated ambush. "It was horrific," said Faiz's younger brother. "They were waiting around the curve, like in the movies, and opened fire. They made sure he was dead and disappeared."

The Suidan family, as well as others villagers, say that the victim was not involved in the feud and was murdered only because of his family relation. "I'm sure this murder could have been prevented," Thaisir Suidan said. "For two days we've been urging the police to take firm action. They knew everything, including names, but did nothing."

The Nahariya police rejected allegations that they failed to act, saying that the fact that no arrests were immediately made was not an indication that nothing had been done.

You forgot to say it was 'shameful', How would I recognise your voice? Flimsy evidence of course. If it were Jews accused you'd have no objection.

Your hatred is so blind you expose your total ignorance of modern science. There's a process called "BALLISTICS", recovered bullet is processed to see if it matches rifling in pistol barrel.. We have another thing, it's called fingerprints, when the fingerprints on the gun that fired the bullet match the fingerprints of the suspect, we have what's called, "Hard cold evidence". Responsibility can't be blamed on anyone else, unless some lunatic tries to do so... Keep up the good work, gives me my daily laugh. You're rather unusual, first jackass I ever ran across that could type...

What flimsy evidence. Who is to say it wasn't one ot those fanatical settlers or policie out to frame the poor Bedouin. Why can't they leave those poor people alone? I wish Gideon and Amira would write on them too but I know they have their hands full with all the other injust- ices against the Palestinian people. Still, I wish Haaretz's could assign someone to cover them. People in the US are very concerned how Israel has been pushing them off their land too. That's been cruel too. Dutch
