By Roni Singer-HerutiTwo doctors at a hospital near Tel Aviv were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of demanding money from the parents of a young cancer-sufferer in order to treat their daughter.
The two detainees work as the director and deputy director of a department at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.

I am not trying to defend these doctors, as I do not have any of the relevant facts. However, there are definitely two-tiers of service in Israel. The same doctors who serve in the National Health System in the mornings (basically for pennies), abandon their posts to go earn a reasonable salary doing private practice in the afternoon. The system is broken and needs re-evaluation. Unfortunately, it is too late for this girl.
Todd - Israel has government funded health, like Canada, the UK and most of Europe. These doctors were PAID already by the government. Asking money from the parents is illegal.
That is just crazy.
then as part of their punishment they should be made to clean the toilets in a cancer ward for the rest of their miserable lives. What the hell is going on?
If there are heavy suspicions of officials taking bribes and of corruption, why is it so surprising that Dr's would not do the same. The hypocritical oath has changed into dollar signs and does not exist any longer and these Dr's should be disbarred and made to pay the victims millions in compensation.
