Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper arrives in Israel this Saturday for a week-long official visit. He will be heading a delegation of economic officials and businesspeople who will meet with their Israeli counterparts in government and business.
The delegation includes Air Canada president Calin Rovenescu, who is Jewish and a strong supporter of Israel.
Air Canada intends to start using new Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets on its Toronto-Tel Aviv route in the spring, and Israel was chosen as one of the first destinations for the airline’s new planes.
About 140,000 passengers flew from Israel to or from Canada in 2013, reports the Israel Airports Authority. This is a slight increase of 1 percent over 2012. Air Canada flew 80,000 of these passengers last year.
