    some solution

To a: The only solution I can think of is to move Israel to Crawford Texas where they will find an abundance of oil/food and water. The Israelis have been on a revenge trip for over sixty years - time to nip this problem in the bud before we have an all out world war which will no doubt end this planet...however, this may just well be what all these religious nutjobs want. Unfortunately it will be too late for them to realize that 'Heaven' is actualy here on earth, a place that they are turning into a hell and that all their religious books are nothing but fairytales written by the power brokers as a way to control the masses pitting them all against each other. Divide and conquer!! My heart felt sympathies to all the Mothers,Fathers and Children that have lost loved ones to this farce. Kind Regards, Sara

You are completely lost in this discussion. No one should encourage a soldier to break the law. Then it is no longer an army but a militia. That is what is happening to your army. I guess it comes from fighting people who can not fight back. As far your opinion on my respect for Israel you are entiltled to yours and I respect it. But that is where it ends.

From the Candyman, Olemert with his one-sided capitulation to the politicalization of the IDF. IDF is now an textbook example of the peter princple, promote the military officers for thier political purity to the ruling elite's not thier competance to master the battlefield Who really fought and died , its was the grunts. Why did IDF go to battle with tank armour that was 10 years old or older without installing new "Smart Armour" to stop the state of the art HEAT, (High Explosive Anti-Tank) missle? Ahh yes same money not the grunts lives. Uhhnmm Maybe Olmert will order new Kaffiyah's for the next battle to stop rain of missles on your heads from his capitulation and appeasement.

SOLUTION: a MOVIE .. educate the masses ? both muslims and non-muslims ? of Exactly what is stated in the Qur?an .. by means of producing the grandest state-of-the-art hi-tech video which would be Two streams superimposed one upon the other: 1 ? the Qur?an text will stream slowly across the bottom for all who can read to do so .. throughout the production the background sound will include at all times the voice of the imam chanting the text (for the sake of all who are unable to read the written text) as it proceeds from line to line within a surah .. and the accompanying music and cinematography should recall a trip on the hubble telescope into the Invisible (to our eyes here on earth) and discover the ecstatic majesty of the beauty of the universe .. 2 ? the Qur?anic text will be accompanied by montages of actual footage DEMONSTRATING the words of the text as they roll by .. at times there will be footage of Mullahs inciting to rioting and killing jews and kafir .. at times footage of recent muslim vs. european host nation rhaetoric ..at times footage of a peasant somewhere in afghanistan or saudi getting his hand amputated for having trespassed some sharia law .. etc .. just follow the TEXT .. IN ALL LANGUAGES .. clips must all be accompanied by a host of LANGUAGE SUB-TITLE choices .. of course, individual streams for the Qur?an translation, and for the ongoing montage footage

    • 23:25

This is not a move to feed hungry troops with food, but to deprive hungry civilians of it. Isreal is refusing to allow emergency food and water from UN and other organizations into the area to feed the newly homeless locals. By giving official permission to loot, the troops are also getting tacit approval that ANY behaviour of thiers is permitted against local populations and property. Israel demands that everyone else regionaly be a good neighbour, while never learning to be one itself. It's internal aparteid, and external arrogance speaks to an hubris that will eventually lead to it's own downfall.

    • 14.08.06
    • 23:21

In the good old days Israel was perceived to be the land of God's people. Now we know better. True Torah Jews consider Israel with its force and cruelty an abomination and a challenge to G-d's will. We now see the true Israel: A country established by UN resolution but which gives a damn in all Israel critical resolutions. A country that only knows to live by the sword, and has no qualms when it comes to stealing, destroying and killing, terrorizing and humiliating its neighbours. A little shoplifting fits nicely in here. The tide has turned: Israel is considered a pariah state, and official Israeli aggressiveness can be thanked for that. Public opinion in Europe has turned against Israel and this has nothing to do with anti-semitism, but it has all to do with Europeans' dislike of crime against humanity. Europeans could not care less whether Israelis worship G-d, or whether their mothers were Jews. So stop hiding behind anti-semitism, and join the human race.

Well, that will do the reputation of the IDF wonderful good, getting known as an army of thieves. Isn't Israel getting enough opprobrium ? Slightly more worrying, what doe sit say about the IDF's ability to resupply? Part of the IDF strength, like that of advanced armies such as the American, is the ability to manage logisitics. No number of tanks or troops will matter if you can't resupply, so is the IDF sinking into that morass too? I think there are senior IDF commanders who have forgotten how to command and need sacking by those who do.

    • 22:26

Hey Joel, My kids must be fed. I don't have enough money to pay both my electric bill and my bar tab, so something had to go. Obviously with no electricity I can't cook so perhaps I'll just take a run to the market after they've closed and pick up the items I need. I know that the owner of the market purchsed those goods with his own money, but my need for the items trumps his rights. I'll of course leave a note saying I'm sorry but I won't leave my name and adress because he might actually send me a bill for it and what would be the point in stealing if I were going to get a bill for it at a later date. Thanx Joel, you've fixed my little problem. Hmmmm, i could also use a new pair of shoes. I wonder..... "In war troops must be fed. Israel`s troops would not be there if they had not been attacked. So if they need food, TAKE IT!"

Here's the take from an Israeli "settler". This general should be immediately fired. The guys in charge of supplying the Israeli troops should be fired. There is no way that troops should have not been supplied properly. The fault is with the incompetence of the Israeli military, and the people at large are opposed to and object to any body who steals, loots, or calls or encourages troops to steal and/or loot. It's something you expect the enemy to do, not your own troops. Signed, Pissedoff Israeli who thinks this guy should be removed from his command position.

Maybe Israel, like the US, will finally realize the Left is morally bankrupt, intellectually bankrupt, and nothing more than an outdated pitiful political philosophy with nothing to offer. Like socialism, communism, and fascism, it's near cousins...

But ALAS, Lebanese paysans and farmers would quickly realise that If Palestenians were the plaque, Israeli were cholera. Figuring out IDF as Civilised was a historical mistake. This is how, Hezbolla came out from nowhere, to say no, no and no. If Israel thinks that they figure out they suceeded to get over without UN sanctions in 1771. • 19:11

Everyone who tries to justify looting from stores owned by Lebanese Civilians because this is "war" keeps forgetting that this is NOT a war against the Lebanese Civilians. How many times does the Gov't have to say this is a war against Hezb. and not a war against Lebanon? If the IDF can find Hezb. food and water stashes, take them. (eat and drink at your own risk...) This is a war against Hezb. and Israel owes them nothing. But this is NOT a war against the Lebanese people. Lebanese Civilian stores cannot be targeted. Even if you believe that every single Lebanese Civilian killed in this conflict was killed because Hezb. was using them as a human shield, you cannot use the same justification for looting civilian stores. There is no way any single soldier is facing the life and death need for water or food that would justify stealing from parties NOT involved with the war.

Friends of Israel I am of the millions who wish a long lasting peace in the Mid East for all people living there indiscriminately. But this to me is a simply the beginning of quite a new era in which the "Sole Option of Massive use of force" is nor longer reliable as an exclusive guarantee for Israel's security and perennity. The old saying "who he rules by fire perishes by fire" is an everlasting wisdom. What would happen to your country the next day a foreign power is able to inflict you the destruction of the magnitude (or even of even greater) that you caused to the Lebanese People and Infrastructure? And if the options at your side remain the same, sooner or later that day is going to come. You cannot keeping counting on the "unreactiveness" of the corrupted Arab regimes presently in power throughout the middle east. New generations are coming up and everything make it likely that won't be as much..

During war time ALL armies in occupying positions may requisition supplies from the local civillian population. This includes the use of homes, civillian buildings, food, medicine and other - non-combat related supplies. It is standard - not illegal and not theft. • Seurat
    • 14.08.06
    • 17:33

Though some could support General Mizrahi's declarations as being retaliation for Hezbollah attacks on the Israeli state, one must remember that: A. Civilians in need of these supplies will suffer the cruelties of starvation and thirst, B. Lebanese stores are barely stock'd, as the continuing siege drives many to consume what supplies remain C. Politically, tis a massive folly as it will continue to outrage and align even moderate Arabs within and without the conflict to sympathize with the unfortunately cruel Hezbollah reprisals to the ever more brutal Israeli attacks. Objectively, one must remember that an army is only as effective as its disciplinary measures, in the context of an offensive against guerillas, this rule is ever more crucial. As they break into Lebanese stores, they shalt be harrowed by the local populations as they attempt to protect what little they have left. Result? Israel shalt see many an Lebanese eye looking towards Hezbollah as the only rival to IDF.

... but then, we saw how Haharetz behaved during the crisis. Who needs the enemy outside? Most of my objective posts were ignored/filtered, while iranians calling for the destruction of Israel and countless posts assuring that "Israel lost big time" were promptly published. This post probably won't show here as well, but even if it's only you that reads this, moderator, open your eyes: No only you basically threaten your country affecting the morals of citizens, soldiers and their families, but you act exactly like #22 stated. As I understand, Haharetz is the "respected" newspaper in Israel, while Yedihot Aharonot and Maariv are the sensasionalist. I guess that also changed, and people like you are responsible for this. Being left-winger doesn't mean acting in a senseless fashion just to hurt your goverment during critical times.

They are entitled to take whatever they can carry. Those quoting the Bible apparently read it very selectively. It is not "stealing" to take spoils of war. It is part of the punishment against the one who started it. And yes, those who allowed Hezbollah to set up shop amongst them are equally as responsible as the terrorists.

Lets not talk about war - it seems to be over; it is ver difficult to judge it from neutral point of view for various reasons. Hizb was wrong for kidnapping soldiers and Israel was wrong for destruction that it waged on the cities and towns... but now its over. Now stealing should be dealt with as a crime committed by immorals (if that happens although I doubt it that IDF will allow that to happen)...

Dear Jewish Mother, My condolences for any loss you may have had. This is the pain that war brings on all of us. Please do not blame Haaretz for their publishing. If any, I would like to thank them. It takes courage and moral backbone to stand up for what is right. I am a Lebanese Muslim, and I always pause and admire when a pro-Israeli stands up and speaks the truth when it is not in favor of Israel. We may have conflicting views, but that does not mean we should abandon all that is moral and ethical. I always respect an honest and moral adversary, and I am cautious of hypocrite friends. For I know where the former stands, and I know that if a day should come where dialogue is to commence, then that dialogue can be done in good faith. God Bless.

Lebanon isn't the moon, or even the far side of the Sinai desert. There is no - absolutely no - excuse for this. This is not "the fog of war." This is long-lasting, deep-rooted incompetence and dereliction of duty. Halutz has been in charge, and the senior staff under him have been responsible. Is this one reason we have seen so many casualties? Halutz should be court-martialed, period, also Udi Adam and the general in charge of logistics, and probably a few other people too. This is not "commission of inquiry" territory. This is plain criminal negligence.

The root of the Middleeast proplem is not the Palestinians and the militants, its the ethical standard that the state of Israel is applying in that part of the world. 1- steal the land under the moto its promised land 2- steal their water (because we have to build swimming pools for the chosen people while the palestinians hardely have any water to drink 3- now break into stores and steal the food. The IDF can go so deep inside lebanon and take 5 people from inside a hospital in the middle of the war, but can't deliver food to their army personal during the cease fire. How pathatic.

IDF fails to protect Israelis. They don?t know how to fight. The officers are building careers, studying for decades in the American military academies (living there with their families on our expense). However, when time comes to protect their country, they are lost. They should learn from Hizbullah. How come they entered the war being so unprepared? Obviously they didn?t have right training and ammunition. Probably the IDF thought Hizbullah has tanks, jets and battleships. Many people on both sides are killed for nothing.

If you and Israel counting on peace with Lebanon, one thing you have to understand, shiit's people keep their revenge for fourty years. Peace negotiations with lebanon could be possible 40 years after the shiits give their people proper burial.

Perhaps they could them shoot the remaining civilians trying to get food and water as well so there will be more for the soldiers. Alternatively, they could leave money for the storeowners for what they take and then take the supplies to the thirsty and hungry local residents who are afraid to go or can't get to the store.

(Stealing) food is nothing in this war
    • Dawn
    • 14.08.06
    • 15:05

This whole war was a mess. Both parties have screwed up well enough. Hezbollah by provoking Israel and, to make things worse, acting in the wrong time without respecting its government. On the other hand, Israel behaved like a state insane. Nothing justifies the horrible things they have done. Unlike Hezbollah, Israel is able to see every entity that moves with their latest technologies and what a poor intelligence it has, they keep killing and hitting things and innocent people (by mistake)! In all cases, if the government is not supplying its soldiers with enough food and water, its only natural to look for it and for sure the soldiers will not go searching for the owners of the shops. Remember, that many Israeli soldiers didn't want to be in this war, a war that served nothing but more blood. For once, lets have some brains and protect our countries from greed.

This post is so typical of misinformed masses, or should I say deliberately ignorant. Those who choose to make their point based on an isolated quote that avoids the bigger picture. I am no Torah scholar but I do do know that all the commandments and Mitzvahs can be broken when a life and death matter is faced. This is exactly what is facing the Jewish nation and the State of Israel at the moment. God would not order his people to keep Kosher when the only source of to stop starvation is unkosher. This is common sense (which is not very common amongst the masses). GO IDF '"You shall not steal." Exodus 20:5 Does this ring a bell? Remember that this was received by the great man who led Israel out of Egypt and into the promised land. Please stop breaking the law of God. Your responsibility is to God no matter what the other side is doing. God bless.'

Everyone suddenly forgot this is war. Here is the breakdown: Ancient Lebanon: This is war, you obviosly are biased against the IDF since we are invading your Country, fair enough. Is it right to steal? No it is not, If a soldier has no food or water to drink in the country he is invading, sorry war is never pretty and that is the other side of the coin. Yes in war people are killed, my people and your people. I dont think lifting a bottle of mineral water from a lebanese store is really the huge tragedy of this mess WE are in. Iranian American: Same goes for you, I don't know you but the new found respect for Israel you have now lost, seems pretty questionable to me. LIana: Fine, don't support our troops. Forget that your brothers and sisters are dying defending your country. But I really don't argue with the self hating Israeli liberals since they are generally unreasonable bleeding hearts anyway.

Soldiers, listen to your mothers' advice and don't touch a thing from there. 1) You don't know what's in it and neither does the general, who hasn't thought this through any better than he did many other aspects of this campaign. 2) It's not yours.

Through the winter? Sounds very familiar to the 22 year occupation. But in reality this will not happen. Also, isn't it enough the economic and material damage to Lebanon that Israeli soldiers will steal water and food from areas of civilians who need them much more in Lebanon. Once again, the Lebanese should thank the great IDF for its consideration...

Is this a systematice destruction of the Israeli military from within??? You do not provide food and water to your soldiers and encourage them to attack civillians??? I have lost almost all of my recently found respect for Israel

I had no idea Israel was suffering from food shortages, perhaps the IDF started this war to get access to some food supplies from stores in south Lebanon. If you had told us before this war, that the IDF was in desperate need of food, we would have provided the IDF with food free of charge to avoid this war. After all, we are neighbours.
