In a new project, Arab and Jewish 5th-11th graders across the country are learning about the Holocaust from eight women carrying out their National Service duty. "I discovered, surprisingly, a high level of readiness among Muslim and Christian students to learn about the Holocaust," said Tali Zaguri, 19, one of the National Service teachers. "Jewish students are naturally more aware of the subject and its importance. Nonetheless, most of the Arab students are curious about the Holocaust."
Zaguri said many Arab students have come up to her after the workshops to ask additional questions and only one student has exhibited reluctance to broach the topic. The National Service women, who only teach at Arab schools by invitation, have undergone a two-month training course at the Yad Vashem.
