by Jacky Poms 6 commentsEilat, with a population of some 60,000 residents, is Israel's southernmost city, located on the northern shores of the Red Sea. The city is adjacent to the Egyptian town of Taba to the south and the Jordanian port city of Aqaba to the east. On a clear day, Eilat is within eyesight of Saudi Arabia to the south-east, across the gulf.
Not only is Eilat is a vital port city for Israel, it is one of the country's main resort locales as tourists from Israel and abroad flock to the city's plethora of luxury hotels and famous beaches. Scuba divers, and snorkeling enthusiasts go to Eilat to explore the colorful marine life and beautiful Red Sea coral reefs.
For those who prefer their vacation time to be spent above the water, Eilat's year-round summer weather and vibrant nightlife are the main attraction. Indeed, tourism is Eilat's main source of income.
