It's unrealistic to expect fur traders to raise animals in humane conditions, if you research that industry. But... if fur animals were treated humanely from start to finish even the strictest animal rights person would call it a huge step in a good direction. The "blinkered view" you refer to is quite rare. Most animal rights people are aware of the realities of life and are simply advocating for respect for the lives of animals.
