Israel is still a relatively young nation. The whole "Zionist experiment" is based on many well intended socialist concepts. The tribal concept was quietly mixed through: Us (Jews) against them (the rest of the world). This tribal concept has been used by the religious fanatics (mainly from the US) to get things their own way, whatever the secular Israeli state planned or didn`t plan. The theft of Palestinian land is therefore the big test for Israel to become a more solid nation. Just like (the abolition of) slavery in the US was. Only when Israel deals with the occupied territories and the Israeli settlers, Israel will be a mature nation. Hopefully it won`t go like the US civil war, but there are strong indications that there is no alternative. The settlers are digging in and their return from the occupied territories will be more difficult each day. Therefore the state of Israel should hurry up: the settlers can wait, the anarchy in the westbank is in their advantage.
