A.B. Yehoshua spends most of his article defining what a Zionist is, but fails to define Zionism, except to say (his opinion) that Zionism is not an ideology. He offers this definition of ideology: “A cohesive, systematic combination of ideas, insights, principles and imperatives that finds expression in the particular worldview of a sect, a party or a social class.” He fails to examine the Zionist worldview in relation to the definition he quotes. The Zionist worldview contains all the elements that would classify it as an ideology. 1. the idea that Jews will never be accepted (assimilated) in a gentile majority political-territorial community. 2. Jews can only realize their full identity and potential if they are the majority people within a state of their own. 3. Historically, wherever Jews settle they become the victims of injustice, persecution, death. 4. God gave Jews "Eretz Isreal" ; therefore, by divine injunction Arabs have no right to the land notwithstanding the fact that they were the majority in the land before they were removed at gun point. Zionist ideology is composed of half-truths, rationalizations, and outright misrepresentations of fact, and has evolved to become a dangerous form of religious racism. To put it another way: Zionism is what Zionism does.
