Zionism has grown up, changed and come closer to its roots. Live with it! All of the original Zionists were religious - starting with Avraham avinu, and including those who made the Great Aliyah from Mitzraim. The State's kesher with religion [right or wrong] is affirmed by the People's reqular exercise of their right to vote; or their decision not to vote. Outside of our State, Jews with no kesher to Judaism have assimilated 'non-Jewish' grandchildren. Statistics clearly show that non-religious Jews are disappearing. There is no such thing as an Ideal Democracy. Democracies vary. Citizens often have opposing views as to what the 'best democratic state' should be like. Few people today would regard ancient Greek democracy as being very democratic at all! Finally, using religious arguments to support his diatribe against religion and the state, sustains the very politico-religious kesher which Grinberg seeks to destroy. I can agree with just one paragraph Grinberg wrote; the 7th "Democracy is based on universalist Jewish values"... Overall I'm not impressed with his skill at logic nor with philosophy. Studying 101 in each seems to be in order.
