As a political movement Zionism established a state on part of the historical Land of Israel and demonstrated that it could compromise. Theologically, it is more difficult for Judaism to compromise the defined Land of Israel. Whether Judaism and Islam can find some 'technical' accomodation remains to be seen. In the meantime Zionism remains the vehicle for compromise, and so its historical role is very relevant.
