I wonder whether African-Americans are encouraged from an early age to feel that thy have a special bond with the countries from which they originated. I can't speak on their behalf but I am certainly not aware of them being reminded so often as all Jews are that Israel should be an important and integral part of their Jewish identity, that it is their homeland to which they should make aliyah and they should support it in every way they can. We are - and therefore when I am attacked simply for being a Jew (verbally never physically) and I condemn my attacker for this, what can I say when they accuse Israel of carrying out racist attacks. Nothing to do with me. I may be a Jew but when Israel tell me it is my homeland and should be of great importance to me, they don't actually mean it!
