It is not a contradiction. Whichever country you may really live in has rules about citizens,aliens,residents with temporary(e.g.) student visas etc, and you can't marry just anyone and watch all the rules dissolve. "Right to marry" is not the same as "right of residence", on the contrary, it is up to you and you intended to do the paperwork and figure out where you can and cannot live, depending on your respective status. Check out a similar situation in your own country before making remarks!
