Asher's article projected an image in my mind of an ostrich with its head in the sand. Denial is a wonderful defense mechanism---it maintains a regular heart beat while facing a dangerous situation. Fact #1: there has NEVER been a peace process. Zionists declared war on the Palestinians in the early 20th century as registered in the writings of Jabotinsky. The Zionist movement was determined to eliminate the Arab population from the mythical Eretz Israel, and even today there are lamintations regarding the missed opportunity that could have driven the Palestinians out of the purported Jewish homeland. Fact #2: Israel's war on the Palestinians and on the Arabs in the region was successful for no other reason than its alliance with the U.S. dedicated to advancing the imperial reach of the superpower while assisting Israel to realize its mythical vision. Israel will never realize peace because its cause is so corrupt that it can only be defended with weapons of mass destruction and the support of the superpower. The tension in the region is growing and if the Israelis think the war their leaders have been promoting since the beginning of the last century has been won, they ought to think again. There are so many dimensions to a changing reality that no state or group of states can control direction change will take. No ideology survives that is not in harmony with the universal common good.
