Israel doesn't have to be bribed to talk, Israel loves to talk. If Israel could it would have decades upon decades of talking, never-ending peace talks would be a dream come true. What Israel doesn't like is doing things, but in order to get the Palestinians to agree to another round of fruitless talking Israel actually has to do something to sweeten the deal. The Pollard thing is just a distraction. You see, the extreme right is very happy with the talking, but the extreme extreme right has come up with the notion that Israel must receive some kind of compensation for continuing to steal land while the talks are ongoing. This is very inconvenient because the extreme right doesn't like being out-extremed. Thus we now have this amazing once in a lifetime chance to buy back an old spy - which is completely worthless, but can still be trumpeted as a huge victory.
