By the second half of 19th c. destitute Russian pilgrims to Jerusalem counted over 3000 persons a year, while the Western Wall hardly saw more than 10 Jewish pilgrims at any time. Zionists in the twenties and thirties regarded Jerusalem and its Jewish sites as highly embarrassing spot and concentrated their efforts on TA & yishuvim. Hardly any city was struck by the negative migration of Zionists as Jerusalem. Will you also say that Israel is the country of all Jews - the big majority of whom thrive in their native US & other Western countries and have no intention to leave? Yeah, so don't forget to utter one more time the next year: "Next year in Jerusalem". Just as your granpa did - in Vienna perhaps.
