What the UN consistently ignores is the fact that the UN caused the Middle east dilemma in the first place. Actually, it was the UN and the Germans. Israel was created in 1948 by the UN as a a refuge for Jews who had been persecuted and made homeless by the Germans. They did so by displacing a lot of Arabs who were not compensated. In the US and other places whose laws derive from the British that's called the Doctrine of Eminent Domain and the party who loses property receives Just Compensation. That was never done in this case and the resentment that resulted is justified. Presently, the border between Israel and an eventual Palestinian state needs to be adjusted to something realistic and those Arabs who were displaced and lost property need to be compensated. The UN should set up a Middle East Compensation Commission and invite people who lost property as a result of the UN's creation of Israel, Arabs AND Jews, to lodge claims and get compensated in exchange for a Release of Claims. That would be fair. You know what you get when you take peoples' property for no compensation? 62 years of war, that's what!
