The US may think they are beyond the law, Israelis may think that too, but in the long run this does not work. The law did work for Iran too, not to mention that it did not matter much anyway, because the Iran was allowed to an illegal act as a reprise after the kidnapping of the Iranian diplomats in occupied Iraq. There is an UN convention on the law of the sea, that nobody can ignore. It was not about British waters but the waters of Iraq, first of all, and contrary to popular believe there was neither an agreement on a border nor a fixed border at all. So there was best of all a zone of an Iraq/Iran wet condominiom, no space for UK unitaleral actions...not to mention the UNSC.....
