ISRAEL HAS NOTHING TO LOSE BY BEING STUBBORN. Of course they will "give in" and talk to Hamas eventually...for those of you born before last year, Fatah was once the PLO, the arch-enemy of Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon. Now Fatah is everyone's darling. Things change. But most of you look at one singular event, and either conclude that (1)Israel has lost because it is brutal/oppressive, or (2)Israel must stand fast and never give in and talk to Hamas. Both are naive and, to be honest, ignorant. Israel *has* to take a hardline -- that's how it has always gotten what it wants. Then it will appear to give in, when in reality it has only given up what was never its in the first place. Think about it: the international community wants Israel to withdraw to 1967 borders...borders which are broader than the original 1947 partition! If Israel withdraws, it's still ahead of where it started! Look at the conflict from a different perspective, and you'll see that we don't have the full picture yet.
