We'll see how the foreseen talks between Syria, US, Irak, Iran will develop. If Syria sees it is taken serious by America and given an adequate place on the international scene, it might get easier for them to do witout the Golan. Giving Syria certain relations to the West can also weaken Iranian influence on Syrian positions. So, maybe Olmert was indeed right with hesitating and he might be correct with softening his stance parallel to the ongoing developments ("cracking"). That's a bit what I appreciate in flexible leaders, such "opportunists", in contrast to those who have their unchangeable positions. Who knows? Maybe in 50 years this man will be considered as having been a great PM...
