Being Jewish is a religion, ethnicity, culture, nation, etc. It has been this unique mix from the beginning. I am a complete atheist, yet I am still a Jew. To many Jewish parents, it is important that their children marry Jews yet few ask about how religious the spouse is. We are a people and have always been a people. It is very annoying when non-Jews tell Jews who and what they are.
