Yaakov, you go to the very heart of Israel's problem but there are two other factors which have contributed to this and which have enabled Israel to become what it is today and that is the unquestioning support of the Jewish diaspora, many of which suffer from the same religiously induced dysfunction which you describe and the unquestioning support of the US. The latter is no doubt based more on the US need for a nuclear weapons base in the Middle East than any consideration for Israelis or Jews, but these supporters, or rather 'enablers' of an Israel 'right or wrong' have pushed, if not pulled Israel down the path toward world pariah and rogue State. If Israel had more true friends in the US or in the Jewish diaspora it would have heard more often what you are saying here and perhaps listened before it was too late. The dysfunction has become delusion and insanity and the delusional and insane are no longer able to hear. Not all Israelis are like this, but tragically for Israel most are and tragically so too are those who wield power in the corridors of government in the US and those who wield money in the Jewish diaspora. I hope Israel has enough people like you, either as citizen or supporter, to be saved.
