You seem to forget that Ratzinger has been for over thirty years one of the most reactionary and fundamentalist cardinals in the Vatican. He used to be responsible for the Sant'Uffizio (the office for the preservation of the faith) - the same guys who invented the Inquisition - and HE RE-ESTABLISHED the Index, the office that takes care of forbidding books that are considered not in tune with the teachings of the church (now it is not fashionable to have public burnings, but the idea is the same idea underlying the public burnings of the Talmud, learnt so well by his compatriots in the thirties). Ratzinger's acts can be judegd positive for the Jews ONLY if he gives back the tens of thousands of precious books and the invaluable religious objects and works of art looted by the church during the sacking of Jewish communities, forced conversions, pogroms, rapes and murders that continued under their control and command for over 1500 years. This is not so likely to happen, since HE has been single-handedly responsible for keeping Jews out the Vatican vaults where OUR treasures are kept.
