It may be a fault of having been born and grown up in New York City,(where there is every ethnic group) and in the US (where citizenship and ethnicity have nothing to do with each other), but I fail to see Yonatan's point. The preponderant majority of Jews in Israel are descended from people who came from somewhere else. Why should different standards be applied to them?
