"Israel, Hamasstan and Palestine. Get used to it; it may last a long time." - Yonatan I agree. My question is what happens when (if) elections are held in accordance with the Palestinian constitution next month? If Gaza is not allowed to vote, then the resulting government will not be legitimate under that constitution. If Gaza does vote, it is very likely that Hamas will again have the majority. I fear that the civil war which was promoted by the governments of Israel and the US received no more forethought or planning for what came next than any of the other actions of Bush and Olmert. I have read a lot of wishful thinking, but I read a lot of that after the invasion of Afghanistan, before the invasion of Iraq, and as Olmert kicked off his brilliant Second Lebanon War. Did anyone consider that now Abbas has to deliver MAJOR improvements in the West Bank or he will be deemed a traitor? Is Israel ready to close settlements, pull out checkpoints, limit occupation? I think not.
