warfare by all means = genocide, more so in the crowded streets of Gaza. When the Israeli's took the 'Territories' there was no wild outbreak of violence from the newly occupied Arabs. When the First Intifada broke out after years of intransigence from Israel towards even the idea of another State on their doorstep, and after missing the opportunity to form some sort of Federation with Jordan before Hussein wrung his hands of the West Bank and Gaza, it was not with Guns that the Arabs fought, but Stones. There had been far worse in Northern Ireland up to that era. When the Israelis chased the PLO out of Lebanon, it was primarily to finish the idea of a 2 state solution which the PLO were moving toward. When the Israelis encouraged Hamas to spread their wings in the Territories, it was as a bulwark against the PLO. This, more than anything else, accounts for the rise of Hamas.
