The Arab refugees fled their homes as a direct result of the attack on Israel by the Arab nations. The overwhelming majority of these refugees were not driven out of their homes by Israel, and deserve no compensation from Israel. The fact that these poor souls have lived in squalor for 60 years is a blot on the Arab conscience - not on mine. However, the 8,000 residents of Gush Katif were asked to settle there over the last 30 years by the sovereign state of Israel. They were not told that their residence there was temporary, and Israel's uprooting them is a crime by Israeli law, and by international law. If they are forcibly transfered from their homes, the Left will have no legal or moral reply when the Right seeks to do the same to Arab citizens of Israel.
