Nobody is saying Palestinians don't deserve statehood. Some are saying that this UN bid comes with the Troyan horse of an intractable terrorist Hamas leadership in Gaza, without guarantees for core issues to be tackled in negotiations, and that symbolism is in nobody's benefit: except to that Moloch everybody fears, and many threaten with, called the Arab Street. The Arab Street can't be allowed to take to world hostage, to dictate the "credibility" of those who vote one way or another, to dictate what "game changers" are. Saudis have yet to learn what democracy is about on a national level, and then, maybe, on a global one.
