The people of Palestine having suffered repeated disappointments with the PLO are cynical and very tired. They live on a fantasy of some better future (God willing), which will never be realized unless the remnants of Arafat's cronies are booted out. Marwan is right in that the various factions must seek unity, and this man must be released from Israeli prison. Hamas' leadership is at least genuinely united and ethical and have demonstrated that they have the interests of the masses at heart. Those in this forum who think that Hamas is a only bunch of thugs are woefully ignorant of who these men are. If DEMOCRACY actually has any meaning at this point in time, then let the people of Palestine decide who will represent them to the world. And the U.S. and Israel should stay completely out of it. I do believe that world powers will speak to Hamas once all is said and done. It is called progress, and let the Likudniks be damned!
