"Hamas rules Gaza, and its official position is that it will never accept Israel's existence. So why doesn't the world understand us?" This is utter nonsense. Yes there's the Hamas Charter but to suggest it is the "be all" is to ignore statements issued over many years by those at the highest level in Hamas, including some given in interviews conducted by mainstream US publications, of compromise and accommodation (e.g. long term truce, etc.). In the year proceeding Cast Lead Hamas was demonstrating its ability to adhere to just such an arrangement, mostly successfully, and hence the need for the devasting Cast Lead. That's the other thing Strenger missed ... if the "enemy" does play nice then apply provocations and/or launch a "war" to get them to return to a more "acceptable" state of mind.
