"Yasak" is the word you are looking for and it is very commonly used in Turkey nowadays. In Turkey the problem is not with the conservatives because it is what expected from them but they have a lot of supporters from the more liberal background. They cover "yasak"s with sugar in a way that becomes acceptable for many and also blame the opposition by being alcoholics. Another good way of making public accept these changes in society is to make them step by step so that people have the bad feeling about them but find it not such a big deal to go out on streets to protest and make it easier to digest. On the other hand going out to protest is very difficult nowadays because the police is very harsh on even the smallest protests. Another good way of making people digest is to give examples from the other countries, they find the examples similar from different countries and make everyone believe it is normal everywhere but what they are doing is cut-paste to justify their prohibitions. The public isn't aware of the outer world as much and buys what is told to them. If you want to change the society in your country follow the steps up there and you will get there without any problems.

This Valentine's day, celebrate not love, but the sublime bond of friendship

Friendship is free of the indignities, suffering and drama that characterize romantic love; it doesn't have an expiration date; we rarely suspect it to be a figment of our imagination. But love is what fuels our economy.
