Yadin's comments, if they were in fact his, do not indicate indifference, but, rather, the contrary. further, a comment, such as "coals to newcastle," taken in its most obvious meaning, is indicative of Yadin's sympathy. so, one wonders, about the bias of the author of this article. if the destruction occurred as it is described, it is appalling but by no means even close to what is common in comparable situations. the Israelis are not immune from this stupidity but have generally demonstrated a generous sensitivity and sympathy for the cultures of others, even those who attack them with relentless savagery.
