Yaakov, you love to juxtapose our self-critical, highly developed humanistic nature to that of nations with very low standards of conduct. We are a light unto nations (although not always the only one for sure) and excel in every field of human experience and endeavour. On the geopolitical front, unlike Russia, Israel does not carpet-bomb its neighbours. Unlike France, Israel does not force its Arab citizens to remove the hijab. Unlike China, Israel does not outlaw Islam. Unlike Arab countries, Israel allows its Arab citizens to vote freely. Unlike its enemies, Israel is interested in coexistence and peace. Unlike the EU, Israel does not negotiate with terrorists. In the realm of international affairs these are laudable standards, which regretfully get drowned by the incessant barrage of diplomatic, cultural, religious, political and terrorist bombs thrown at Israel and Jews in general by the international community. Is there room for improvement? Always. But that is an iterative process that requires the genuine participation of Israeli Arabs in Israeli life, army, culture, economy etc...

Why we don't know how to pick our leaders

Our craving for ideology means that we are partial to ideological leaders. But we need leaders who will make smart decisions that are aligned with the public interest.
